LONDON: A renowned Indian journalist and Dalit rights campaigner has claimed a Hindu extremist organisation played a role in the Mumbai bombings of 2008 which killed 164 people and wounded more than 300. The Indian govt have always maintained that Pakistan-based Islamic militants affiliated with LeT carried out the coordinated shooting and bombing attacks in India’s largest city but VT Rajshekar, famous Indian leader of the Dalits and a journalist of long standing, made the shocking revelation at a seminar in London that a secret extremist Brahminical organisation called Abhinav Bharat had a role in the bombings that shook India and brought the two nuclear powers to the brink of an all-out war. He quoted from the book, ‘Who killed Karakare?’ by a senior police officer Musharif, which he released in Bombay. Rajshekar, whose son Salil Shetty is the Secretary General of Amnesty International, told participants of London Institute of South Asia (LISA) that Indian Army Colonel Srikanth Purohit, who was allegedly involved in the Samjhota Express train bombings, is also a member of the same secret Brahminical organisation which has deep anti-Muslim agenda. He added this Brahminical organisation is well looked after in a jail in Nasik, Maharashtra. Rajshekar said Abhinav Bharat is also behind the killing of Mumbai police officer Hemant Karakare. Rajshekar, who is the editor of Dalit Voice, claimed that those involved in attacks are currently in a jail in a town called Nazik in Maharashtra. “They are all Brahmins and upper castes and well looked after by the state,” said the Dalit Voice editor, in reference to the superiority of Brahmin caste in Indian life. He claimed the major part of the Mumbai terror attacks were carried out by Abhinav Bharat and the same organisation was involved in a series of attacks against Muslims. He said the serving lieutenant colonel who heads the secret extremist organisation has visited Israel twice and allegedly the Jewish state has given the organisation money and arms to attack Muslims. He said the Indian Intelligence (IB) was fully aware of this. He said media knew f about this but didn’t highlight it because they are all “blood brothers”. Dalits form 20 percent of Indian population but don’t have any human rights.

His face as still and serene as a statue’s, the Buddhist monk who has taken the title “the Burmese bin Laden” begins his sermon. Hundreds of worshippers sit before him, palms pressed together, sweat trickling down their sticky backs. On cue, the crowd chants with the man in burgundy robes, the mantras drifting through the sultry air of a temple in Mandalay, Burma’s second biggest city after Rangoon. It seems a peaceful scene, but Wirathu’s message crackles with hate. “Now is not the time for calm,” the monk intones, as he spends 90 minutes describing the many ways in which he detests the minority Muslims in this Buddhist-majority land. “Now is the time to rise up, to make your blood boil.” Buddhist blood is boiling in Burma, also known as Myanmar–and plenty of Muslim blood is being spilled. Over the past year, Buddhist mobs have targeted members of the minority faith, and incendiary rhetoric from Wirathu–he goes by one name–and other hard-line monks is fanning the flames of religious chauvinism. Scores of Muslims have been killed, according to government statistics, although international human-rights workers put the number in the hundreds. Much of the violence is directed at the Rohingya, a largely stateless Muslim group in Burma’s far west that the U.N. calls one of the world’s most persecuted people. The communal bloodshed has spread to central Burma, where Wirathu, 46, lives and preaches his virulent sermons. The radical monk sees Muslims, who make up at least 5% of Burma’s estimated 60 million people, as a threat to the country and its culture. “[Muslims] are breeding so fast, and they are stealing our women, raping them,” he tells me. “They would like to occupy our country, but I won’t let them. We must keep Myanmar Buddhist.” Such hate speech threatens the delicate political ecosystem in a country peopled by at least 135 ethnic groups that has only recently been unshackled from nearly half a century of military rule. Already some government officials are calling for implementation of a ban, rarely enforced during the military era, on Rohingya women’s bearing more than two children. And many Christians in the country’s north say recent fighting between the Burmese military and Kachin insurgents, who are mostly Christian, was exacerbated by the widening religious divide. Radical Buddhism is thriving in other parts of Asia too. This year in Sri Lanka, Buddhist nationalist groups with links to high-ranking officialdom have gained prominence, with monks helping orchestrate the destruction of Muslim and Christian property. And in Thailand’s deep south, where a Muslim insurgency has claimed some 5,000 lives since 2004, the Thai army trains civilian militias and often accompanies Buddhist monks when they leave their temples. The commingling of soldiers and monks–some of whom have armed themselves–only heightens the alienation felt by Thailand’s minority Muslims. Although each nation’s history dictates the course radical Buddhism has taken within its borders, growing access to the Internet means that prejudice and rumors are instantly inflamed with each Facebook post or tweet. Violence can easily spill across borders. In Malaysia, where hundreds of thousands of Burmese migrants work, several Buddhist Burmese were killed in June–likely in retribution, Malaysian authorities say, for the deaths of Muslims back in Burma. In the reckoning of religious extremism– Hindu nationalists, Muslim militants, fundamentalist Christians, ultra-Orthodox Jews–Buddhism has largely escaped trial. To much of the world, it is synonymous with nonviolence and loving kindness, concepts propagated by Siddhartha Gautama, the Buddha, 2,500 years ago. But like adherents of any other religion, Buddhists and their holy men are not immune to politics and, on occasion, the lure of sectarian chauvinism. When Asia rose up against empire and oppression, Buddhist monks, with their moral command and plentiful numbers, led anticolonial movements. Some starved themselves for their cause, their sunken flesh and protruding ribs underlining their sacrifice for the laity. Perhaps most iconic is the image of Thich Quang Duc, a Vietnamese monk sitting in the lotus position, wrapped in flames, as he burned to death in Saigon while protesting the repressive South Vietnamese regime 50 years ago. In 2007, Buddhist monks led a foiled democratic uprising in Burma: images of columns of clerics bearing upturned alms bowls, marching peacefully in protest against the junta, earned sympathy around the world, if not from the soldiers who slaughtered them. But where does political activism end and political militancy begin? Every religion can be twisted into a destructive force poisoned by ideas that are antithetical to its foundations. Now it’s Buddhism’s turn. Mantra of Hate Sitting cross-legged on a raised platform at the New Masoeyein monastery in Mandalay, next to a wall covered by life-size portraits of himself, the Burmese bin Laden expounds on his worldview. U.S. President Barack Obama has “been tainted by black Muslim blood.” Arabs have hijacked the U.N., he believes, although he sees no irony in linking his name to that of an Arab terrorist. About 90% of Muslims in Burma are “radical, bad people,” says Wirathu, who was jailed for seven years for his role in inciting anti-Muslim pogroms in 2003. He now leads a movement called 969–the figure represents various attributes of the Buddha–which calls on Buddhists to fraternize only among themselves and shun people of other faiths. “Taking care of our own religion and race is more important than democracy,” says Wirathu. It would be easy to dismiss Wirathu as an outlier with little doctrinal basis for his bigotry. But he is charismatic and powerful, and his message resonates. Among the country’s majority Bamar ethnic group, as well as across Buddhist parts of Asia, there’s a vague sense that their religion is under siege–that Islam, having centuries ago conquered the Buddhist lands of Indonesia, Malaysia, Pakistan and Afghanistan, now seeks new territory. Even without proof, Buddhist nationalists stoke fears that local Muslim populations are increasing faster than their own, and they worry about Middle Eastern money pouring in to build new mosques. In Burma, the democratization process that began in 2011 with the junta’s giving way to a quasi-civilian government has also allowed extremist voices to proliferate. The trouble began last year in the far west, where machete-wielding Buddhist hordes attacked Rohingya villages; 70 Muslims were slaughtered in a daylong massacre in one hamlet, according to Human Rights Watch. The government has done little to check the violence, which has since migrated to other parts of the country. In late March, the central town of Meikhtila burned for days, with entire Muslim quarters razed by Buddhist mobs after a monk was killed by Muslims. (The official death toll: two Buddhists and at least 40 Muslims.) Thousands of Muslims are still crammed into refugee camps that journalists are forbidden to enter. In the shadow of a burned-down mosque, I was able to meet the family of Abdul Razak Shahban, one of at least 20 students at a local Islamic school who were killed. “My son was killed because he was Muslim, nothing else,” Razak’s mother Rahamabi told me. Temple and State In the deep south of Burma’s neighbor Thailand, it is the Buddhists who complain of being targeted for their faith. This part of the country used to be part of a Malay sultanate before staunchly Buddhist Thailand annexed it early last century, and Muslims make up at least 80% of the population. Since a separatist insurgency intensified in 2004, many Buddhists have been targeted because their positions–such as teachers, soldiers and government workers–are linked with the Thai state. Dozens of monks have been attacked too. Now the Buddhists have overwhelming superiority in arms: the Thai military and other security forces have moved into the wat, as Thai Buddhist temples are known. If Buddhists feel more protected by the presence of soldiers in their temples, it sends quite another signal to the Muslim population. “[The] state is wedding religion to the military,” says Michael Jerryson, an assistant professor of religious studies at Youngstown State University in Ohio and author of a book about Buddhism’s role in the southern-Thailand conflict. Muslims too are scared: more of them have perished in the violence than Buddhists. (By proportion of population, more Buddhists have died, however.) Yet Buddhists are the ones who receive the greater state protection, and I listen to monk after monk heighten tensions by telling me that Muslims are using mosques to store weapons or that every imam carries a gun. “Islam is a religion of violence,” says Phratong Jiratamo, a former marine turned monk in the town of Pattani. “Everyone knows this.” It’s a sentiment the Burmese bin Laden would endorse. I ask Wirathu how he reconciles the peaceful sutras of his faith with the anti-Muslim violence spreading across his Bamar-majority homeland. “In Buddhism, we are not allowed to go on the offensive,” he tells me, as if he is lecturing a child. “But we have every right to protect and defend our community.” Later, as he preaches to an evening crowd, I listen to him compel smiling housewives, students, teachers, grandmothers and others to repeat after him, “I will sacrifice myself for the Bamar race.” It’s hard to imagine that the Buddha would have approved. – Time- Myanmar 969 terrorist kill Muslim in burma mitkhla

Why I Embraced Islam: Dr. Maurice Bucaille

Dr. Maurice Bucaille is a surgeon by profession. He is also a renowned scholar. In order to be able to read Quran in its original text and to study its meaning and purport through direct access to its early and modern commentaries, he devoted himself to the learning of Arabic language at the ripe age of fifty. Thereafter, he made a beginning by trying to reconcile proven scientific truths with religious axioms. As a result of these studies, he wrote his famous book "QURAN, BIBLE AND SCIENCE" in 1976, which caused a furor in high academic circles - particularly in the Christian world. After a deeper study of Islam and the Quran, he has authored another book titled, "THE ORIGIN OF MAN". It comprised Quranic explanations of some of the queries raised much earlier than the period when those queries were logically and satisfactorily resolved by scientific experimentation, to be fully in conformity with the explanations provided by Quran about 1500 years before. The Church acknowledged and accepted these researches of Dr. Bucaille to be a valuable contribution to human knowledge and the author became famous all over the world, like Cambridge, and Oxford Universities in U.K. & Yale and Harvard in USA. He was invited to give Extension Lectures in their academic institutions. By dint of his Quranic thought, and by virtue of his unprejudiced and realistic approach to Quranic thought, and by virtue of his unprejudiced and realistic discussion and research work, Dr. Bucaille has converted a number of high ranking scholars to agree with him and to subscribe to his view that the Quran is a Divine Book, not authored by any human being and actually a Book of Revelations from Almighty God to His Last Prophet, Mohammed, Peace Be Upon Him. M. Bucaille is of the view that his findings in this behalf are a cause of consternation and chagrin to Western scholars because of their earlier exposure to false and fictitious propaganda against Islam and its Prophet (S.A.W.), by the Christian clergy and by biased Western writers and authors. This misguided class of people could not believe that Quran was the only Scripture which had remained sacrosanct and free from all additions, alterations and interpolations and consequently it still retained the purity to guide mankind in all ages, places and in every conceivable crisis. For over 1400 years it has been the only treasure house of ecclesiastical and cosmic knowledge about the universe and life itself. Mankind has not yet to progress and proceed to a stage where it can fully be au fait with all the pearls and gems of wisdom and truth, garnered in its bosom by this miracle of literacy, excellence and academic purity which could not be matched even in one small sentence by the literary giants of yore, in spite of an open challenge to this effect.

Q: What urged you so forcefully to undertake a study of the Quran and other scriptures, and why? A: Like all other Frenchmen, I was also initially of the view that Islam was a religion conceived and introduced by a genius and a remarkable man of great intellect, known by the name of Mohammed (S.A.W.). Fifty years ago, by the Grace of God, I became professionally qualified to practice as a surgeon, and used to discuss and compare (views on) Islam and Christianity with my patients who came to consult me (and with my co- professionals). I was told by some of them that my knowledge of Islam and about its discipline was to a great extent misconceived and mistaken. In the beginning I was inclined to doubt them, but now and then some people produced actual and original Quranic Verses in contradiction of my references, and I was compelled to revise my conclusions. And, as a result of this revision and review, I felt that they were right and I was wrong. I found that those who had been my teachers had a wrong approach to the problem and had imparted incorrect information to me. My knowledge of Islam, until then, had been restricted to Radio and T.V. reviews, articles published in various magazines and reproduced in biased treatise books. But I was perplexed; what should I do? How should I amend my position and rectify my understanding?

Q: When did this happen? A: After the 8th Vatican Conference but before the birth of a tolerant attitude on the part of European scholars gravitating to unbiased thought, i.e. before 1926, when the cleavage between Muslims and Christian scholars was at its zenith and there was no prospect of a direct dialogue between them.

Q: How did you react to this situation? A: There was only one road open to me then, that of learning Arabic language so that I could study the Holy Book, Quran, in its original form and try to get at its meaning directly. I devoted the next two years to this task when I had acquired enough knowledge of Arabic (in language and literature) to be able to make a dependable study of the Quran faithfully as well as academically. Q: And how did this benefit you? A: I knew then that the Quran was the "Work of Allah" and had not been authored by any human being. I was also convinced that Mohammed (S.A.W.) was a true Prophet of God.

Q: The world is now celebrating the first centenary of Darwin, do you subscribe to Darwinian theory or disagree with it? A: No Sir, I oppose it vehemently. Darwin's theory is totally based on a misconception and is not at all the outcome of such a scientific research as could prove that there exists the slightest relation between man and the theory of evolution of species as propounded by him. In fact his views are nothing but the misguided and misconceived calculations of a purely materialistic mind. My latest book (Origin of Man) contains a comprehensive "Rebuttal Article" on Darwin and his views.

Q: Are you of the opinion that Darwin was aware of his error? A: Yes, I think he knew the error he committed. The scholars, who are fond of materialism, have propounded innumerable theories, mostly incorrect, and the fun of it is that they are aware of their fallacies. However, being materialist, they stick to their wrong attitude. In my book I have criticized some of these scholars, several of whom are Nobel Prize winners.

Q: Do you think your writings have had direct repercussion on people outside France? A: Yes, Recently, only a few days ago, I visited Northern and Western African countries, where I was repeatedly called upon to address innumerable gatherings of educated persons including scholars, on the Origin of Man and about my first book: the Quran, Bible and Science. I was closely cross- examined about my views by some of the most qualified, even hostile, elements. Following this, countless students and scholars contacted and congratulated me. They declared that after listening to me, they had, for the first time, been able to feel convinced of the truth of the Quranic statements about the creation of universe and origin of man. Some of them frankly admitted that my writings and lectures had restored in them a firm certainty of belief and faith and converted them into True Muslims, who actually felt solace and pleasure now in saying their "prayers". They declared that the element of doubt and dilly-dalliance in faith was entirely due to the misconceived theories of some of these so-called Western scholars whose theories had been adopted as gospel truth.

Q: What is the verdict of Science on Man; and why this conflict between Science and Religion on this score? A: In my book, "Origin of Man", I have endeavored to explain what is dubious and what is proved according to scientific findings. I have also dealt with the theories formerly supported by scholars, but now their very basis is being demolished and proved to be without sound scientific footing. In 1851, Darwin published his first book, "Origin of Species". In it he has pointed out that "All animals can procreate amongst themselves", but he did not take the trouble to demonstrate and prove scientifically his view that the "Genealogy of Man" extends up to monkey.

Q: Then who is responsible for propounding this frivolous theory? A: The fact is that some other people metamorphosing and without statements digesting his theories, assigned wrong statements to Darwin, which comprised the assumption that "Man has evolved from apes". Nevertheless, it is also true that Darwin did not care to contradict such false notions assigned to him as it was in this connection and on this topic that confrontation occurred between the supporters of Darwin and the Clergy, where both the parties roundly abused and maligned each other. That is why it is now essential that a line of demarcation should always be drawn between the results of scientific investigations and arbitrary views of scholars like Darwin.

Q: By such scientific discourses, debates and discussions even Scriptures, are exposed to scientific test resulting in exposing their errors and pin-pointing their weaknesses. As such, may we inquire if you have some across any such anomalies in the Quran, i.e. where its expositions and explanations are in contrast to scientific findings? A: The Scriptures of non-Muslims have been copied and passed on from generation to generation and through different personalities. The oldest document of this nature is "Jehovah", which was written some time during 9th Century A.D. This book, although not voluminous, is still the most comprehensive document of its kind. The second book (Sacrodotal), although generally treated as Preface to the Bible, came to light in 600 B.C. It deals with the creation of universe and the appearance of Man on earth and the stories narrating the events following it. The Bible comes thereafter, but the books of the "New Testament" do not throw much light on the problem of Man. They repeat the statements of the Old Testament as adopted by St. Luke. Quran made its appearance six hundred years after Jesus and furnished valuable material on Man and his creation which was (and still is) totally lacking in the Old as well as the New Testaments and other Scriptures. What is more important is this context is that unlike the Bible's Old and New Testaments, Quran is completely free from errors and interpolations.

Q: In your opinion, what are the main causes of such plentiful errors in other Scriptures? A: The compilers of the Holy Scriptures, in their vanity, presumed to have compiled them on the basis of heavenly revelations. But all their efforts were the echoes of their period resounding the thoughts prevalent in that particular environment. They presented the conception of Man and the phenomenon of his creation as if enunciated by God Himself, though it merely reflected the traditions the rite and the perceptions well known and prevalent at that time. This fact is admitted unanimously by all the exegetes of the Bible, be they Roman Catholics or Protestants.

Q: Does the church also admit this fact and subscribe to this view? A: Yes Sir. The church did accept this truth which was incorporated in the proceedings on the occasion of the second Vatican conference, which was held to declare the "Revolutionary Nature of Old and New Testaments". They admitted that some parts of these Bibles are defective and contradictory in purport.

Q: What are your views about the Quran in this behalf? A: Now this is a matter of entirely a different nature. All scholars of the Quran are unanimous that the Quran is the "Word of God" as revealed to His Last Prophet Mohammed (S.A.W.) through Gabriel (The Angel of Revelation). I have studied the Book (Quran) very carefully and have not come across one single instance of scientific fallacy any where in it. On the contrary, I have felt that the (higher) truths and realities inherent in Quranic Text have been, throughout the history of 1400 years, beyond the comprehension of ordinary human beings which in itself, is positive proof that the Quran is the Word of God and it is (at places) beyond intellectual potential of mortal man; be he an excellent scholar or philosopher of the highest caliber, who is not always able to explain the inherent realities of nature as revealed in the Quran. What obviously conflicts with scientific truth is the assumption of the Bible that although life erupted in the form of various species, which have endured, there has been no evolution or improvement in their functions. On the other hand according to the Quran, Man has transgressed through gigantic changes in the course of the entire history of humanity. I felt it very necessary to inform the Christians of the world of this very serious discrepancy in the Bible. As it happen to be impartial, truthful and very outspoken in my studies, I have been repeatedly called upon from time to time to express my views regarding these matters before distinguished gatherings. On all such occasions, I have always dealt with the subject from the scientific point of view, ignoring the ecclesiastic or theological context. Whatever has appeared to be dubious or fit for further investigation, I have tried to put it on the touchstone of criticism and have not allowed to pass it unchallenged.

Q: Have you embraced Islam? A: I wanted to make it quite clear in the very beginning that even before I learnt the first letter of Bismillah, I was convinced that God was unique and all- powerful and when God guided me to undertake a study of the Quran, my inner soul cried out that Al- Quran was the Word of God revealed to his Last Prophet Mohammed (S.A.W.). In my book "Quran, Bible and Science," I have mentioned these facts and the book has met with instant success in the entire Christian world. In this book I have devoted myself to discuss all problems from purely academic angle, rather than that of faith or belief which would have revealed only my personal convictions. This was because I desired to be treated by the world as an academician rather than a theologian. About my faith and belief, God knows what is in one's heart. I am convinced that if I identify myself with any creed, people will invariably dub me as one belonging to such and such group and feel that whatever I say or do, I do so from only the angle of such and such creed group. I know my fellow beings very well and understand their mentality only too well. I wanted to assure them that all my pronouncements are based on scientific knowledge and not on any religious dogmas.

Q: This is O.K., but since you have referred to God's complete awareness with what is in one's heart, may we ask what is your opinion about human heart? A: Heart is not an apparent and perceptible organ of the body. It is the abode of faith and source of eternal light. Q: What are your views on Islamic mission and its future in the west? A: The best method is to approach the people through in their own language. I am using the world language in its broadest sense, i.e. comprehensive of all the factors which go to make any language complete and expressive of peoples' views and beliefs. The principles and the regulations towards which you are inviting their attention, should be presented in the style with which you are familiar and which is popular among them. In my book "Quran Bible and Science", I have adopted a new style to acquaint the readers with Quranic truths and to understand the intrinsic value of al-Quran. This unprejudiced and impartial viewpoint of mine gave an impetus to the wide circulation in my books. Firstly, I tried to find out the central point of attention of the Christians and the style that appeals to their common sense. Thereafter I achieved this success. After the publication of these books I received a number of letters from great academicians and research scholars as well as commoners in which they expressed their interest in my study of Al-Quran and appreciated it. They felt satisfied with my views about the Bible and confirmed the fallacies pointed out by me. I once entertained some Christians at home, in which they expressed their astonishment over the literature I produced regarding Islam and inquired the names of exegesis to acquire correct information about it. Q: What are your activities now? A: We are now trying to produce a film on "Science, the Quran and the Origin of Man" as a matter of fact I have deep friendly relations with Malaysia. The provincial branch of "Dawa-Islamia" has passed a resolution to produce a film on the Quran and the director of the producing company visited Paris to prepare a plan for it. This film is to be in Technicolor. The duration of its presentation is fifty-five minutes being devoted to the Quran and the history of the facts related to it, the verses of the Quran are depicted in this film. Thus it is of great importance. Six hundred thousand dollars have been collected to produce this film. The preparation of this film has already been started. To begin with it will be produced in five languages, and then it will be extended up to ten. The first print will be in English, then Arabic and French, and thereafter in other languages. Also, lots of people would just say it’s not there because they haven’t seen it or read the Quran entirely while understanding it 100% to be able to say it does.The term ‘dinosaur’ is also the modern word of what those creatures were called thousands of years ago. We do not know what those creatures were referred to exactly, but we can only study the Quran further to make that decision, if it indeed exists in the Quran.For an example, a lot of people used the excuse of how there is no verse that implies that women have to wear the Hijab(headscarf) and point out only one ayah (verse) that tells women to dress modestly. Of course, that is based on their knowledge of the Quran, little do they know that there exists two more versus that relate to the Headscarf and makes it compulsory.Just because they don’t know about it, doesn’t mean it doesn’t exist. Everyday or every decade,we discover something new. Whether it be a more clear understanding of what we thought a verse meant, or a complete shift in our views. Islam is over 1400 years old, and to this day we still find something new out, and we still don’t completely understand the Quran. Some verses have literal implications, others an underlining meaning or message. Now, that does not prove that there is a verse about dinosaurs in the Quran,but suggests that it may actually exist in the Quran but has not yet been identified. We do not know what God refers to as ‘dinosaurs’ in the Quran, but we do know that there is a verse that discusses ‘giant creatures/beasts (Dabbah)’ in verse 2:164 from the Holy Quran: “ … in the beasts of all kinds that He scatters through the earth…are signs for a people that are wise” The same word ‘Dabbah’ is used the in the verse 24:45: “And God has created every animal from water: of them are some that creep on their bellies; some that walk on two legs; and some that walk on four. God creates what he wills…” There is another verse in the Quran that I found very interesting – Al-Araf:56 “work not confusion in the earth after the fair ordering thereof” which describes how the earth had been “repaired/reordered/restored”,suggesting there had been commotion or some problematic event on earth and was restored. It warns the believers to not cause confusion on earth. Then again, that could mean a whole different thing. But, I do believe,even though the Quran is meant mainly to guide the believers, that there may be some verse that might further explain life millions of years ago.))

Say: In them is great sin, and (some) benefits for men, but the sin of them is greater than their benefit.” (2:219) Omar continued to pray: “O Allah indicate a manifest indication about wine.” Allah revealed” “O you who believe! Approach not As-Salat (the prayer) when you are in a drunken state until you know (the meaning) of what you utter.” (4:43) Omar prayed again: “O Allah indicate us about wine.” Allah revealed: “O you who believe intoxicants (all kinds of alcoholic drinks), and gambling … are an abomination of Shaitan’s (Satan) handiwork. So avoid (strictly all) that (abomination) in order that you may be successful. Satan wants only to excite enmity and hatred between you with intoxicants and gambling, and hinder you from the remembrance of Allah and from As-Salat (the prayer). So will you not then abstain?” (5:90-91) After hearing this revelation, Omar exclaimed: “We are refrained, we are refrained.” The ban on the use of intoxicants was gradual. This evil was eradicated by Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him). He warned about the curse of Allah on all those associated with it from production to its consumption. The Apostle of Allah (peace be upon him) said: “Whatever much of it intoxicates, then little of it is also prohibited.” (Abu Dawood from Jabir) Abdullah Bin Omar is quoted to have said: “The Apostle of Allah (peace be upon him) said that ‘Anybody who attributed to me anything which I did not say will go to Hell.” After this Abdullah Bin Omar said: “I heard the Apostle of Allah (peace be upon him) saying ‘No doubt Allah has prohibited the wine, games of chance and the wine extracted from “Ghabeera” (a flower tree with fruit). Narcotic drugs are also banned in Islam. This ban was enforced in 7th century for the welfare of humanity. The latest developments in medical science have proved the consumption of alcohol and narcotics to be a social evil causing great harm not only to the society but also to human health. If we look into the expenditure incurred on drinks (intoxicants) in European and American countries we get an alarming figure of thousands of millions of dollars. France has the highest alcohol consumption. Frenchmen consume 200 million liters of alcoholic beverages every year. Alcohol makes the man unstable and creates multifarious problems. It breaks the family ties and brings about a complete disruption in family life. The man under its influence fills the destructive bowl, gets excited with an urge to commit crimes and does not hesitate to commit adultery, incest and fornication. Alcohol abuse presents the society with a staggering bill. In the US, somewhere between $25 billion to $40 billion are lost in terms of labor productivity, treatment and welfare. (Koffend 1979) In 1979, the World Health Organization in a report stated that alcoholism is becoming a major problem in developing countries. In Zambia and Venezuela the abuses of alcohol are linked with increasing crimes and is the major cause of road accidents. In South Africa, 75 percent of the population is affected directly with adverse affects of alcoholism. In US, 40 percent of all road accidents are due to alcohol abuse and alcohol accounts for 50 percent of criminal arrests. Man is a social animal. He is superior to animals by virtue of his mental faculties. If these faculties are impaired, he will act like an animal. Alcohol and narcotic drugs impair the higher centers of the brain with the result a man loses judgment, intellect, learning reason, memory and orientation. The lower centers of the brain are freed from the inhibiting influence of the higher centers causing excitement and animalistic behaviors. Owing to this, the intoxicated person behaves recklessly and become loquacious and loses self-control, totters and is led by evil desires to commit crimes. The following are the bodily harms or diseases of alcoholism observed by the medical science. 1. Peripheral Neuritis, i.e. numbness and weakness in nervous system. 2. Wernicks Encephalopathy, causing the disturbance in consciousness and neurological problems. 3. Korsakoffs Psychosis i.e. impairment of memory delusion. 4. Delirium Tremens. The alcoholic is confused, restless, misidentifies people and places and has severe tremor. 5. Cerebella degeneration. 6. Alcoholic gastritis causes heartburn, anorexia, nausea, and vomiting. 7. Pancreatitis. It may result into hemorrhage resulting in death. There are some other sever diseases like cardiomyopathy abnormality of the rhythm of the heart and beri beri heart disease etc., etc. The above facts make it crystal clear that alcohol and narcotic drugs not only take away the hard- earned money of the people but also their intellect and health and leave them worthless. Caliph Omar was wise when he prayed in earlier 7th century for the ban saying intoxicants take away the money and the intellect. Allah the Omniscient, the All-Wise Who cares for the welfare of his bondmen banned intoxicants and delivered them from the pernicious evil. Now in 20th century all the sensible world is making a lot of hue and cry to stop alcoholism only to learn that it is reaching epidemic proportions. It is Islam which tackled all social evils and crimes and devised ways and means to save humanity from the menace of narcotics and alcoholism. Freedom Of Ideas Does Not Mean Freedom To Insult

Yemen is once again on the agenda due to an act of terror. But this time the attack took place in France, not in Yemen. The brothers Said and Shaarif Kouachi killed 12 people in an attack on the French satirical magazine Charlie Hebdo. The Yemeni branch of al-Qaeda (AQAP) issued a video communique saying that they had given the job to the Kouachi brothers. In its statement, al-Qaeda said that the Paris attack had been perpetrated at the command of their leader, Dr. Ayman al-Zawahiri, but they were not involved in the separate hostage- taking in the kosher market. Speaking on the video posted on YouTube, Nasser bin Ali al-Ansi, one of the organization’s leaders, said, “… we, the Organization of Al Qaeda al Jihad in the Arabian Peninsula, claim responsibility for this operation as vengeance for the Messenger of God.” As Muslims, it is very important to recognize that barbarity and heinous murder to shoot people savagely, hunt down defenseless people is a vicious act of terror simply because they think wrongly or insult or are hostile to Islam. Those who commit cowardly murder behind a mask of “Islam” and imagine they are taking revenge and waging jihad are in fact, in the eyes of the true Islam, murderers. Terrorism is a scourge cursed by Islam, the most horrible and savage face of fanaticism. As a second point, freedom of thought and expression is very important. Everyone can and must be able to express his opinions freely. However, insults, and especially insults directed against religious values, are not a form of expression as they contain no thoughts. One of the most trusted courts on the subject of human rights, and certainly one with the widest powers, is the European Court of Human Rights (ECHR). The ECHR was founded to prevent states from violating their citizens’ individual rights and freedoms in democratic European countries. The court rules on the basis of the European Convention on Human Rights, a text that guarantees minimum rights and freedoms for individuals for the maintenance of democratic regimes in Europe. The rulings of the ECHR have a tremendous influence on judiciaries and state functioning in European countries. In many of its previous rulings, the ECHR has stated that insulting religious values is not within the scope of freedom of ideas: One such ruling is known as the “Forbidden Phrases Ruling” and concerns an incident that took place in Turkey. The Istanbul public prosecutor alleged that there was blasphemy against “God, the Religion, the Prophet and the Holy Book” in the book entitled “Yasak Tümceler” (The Forbidden Phrases). On 28 May, 1996, the Istanbul Court of First Instance sentenced the defendant in that case to two years’ imprisonment and a fine, finally commuting the prison sentence to a fine. The Turkish Court of Cassation upheld that judgment on 6 October, 1997. The proprietor and managing director of the publishing house that published the book appealed to the ECHR on the grounds that the freedom of expression enshrined in Article 10 of the Convention had been violated. In its ruling of 13 September, 2005 on the case originated in the application no. 42571/98, the ECHR said; “As paragraph 2 of Article 10 recognises, the exercise of that freedom carries with it duties and responsibilities. Among them, in the context of religious beliefs, may legitimately be included a duty to avoid expressions that are gratuitously offensive to others and profane (see, for example, Otto-Preminger-Institut v. Austria, judgment of 20 September 1994, Series A no. 295-A, pp. 18-19, § 49, and Murphy v. Ireland, no. 44179/98, § 67, ECHR 2003‑IX). This being so, as a matter of principle it may be considered necessary to punish improper attacks on objects of religious veneration.” “ A State may therefore legitimately consider it necessary to take measures aimed at repressing certain forms of conduct, including the imparting of information and ideas, judged incompatible with respect for the freedom of thought, conscience and religion of others (see, in the context of Article 9, Kokkinakis v. Greece, judgment of 25 May 1993, Series A no. 260-A, and Otto- Preminger-Institut, cited above, pp. 17-18, § 47).” “… the present case concerns not only comments that offend or shock, or a “provocative” opinion, but also an abusive attack on the Prophet of Islam. Notwithstanding the fact that there is a certain tolerance of criticism of religious doctrine within Turkish society, which is deeply attached to the principle of secularity, believers may legitimately feel themselves to be the object of unwarranted and offensive attacks …” After the above statements, the court decided unanimously that freedom of expression had not been restricted. France is one of the countries in which European Court of Human Rights rulings are binding. In addition, the United Nations, which France is again a member of, has also decreed several times that insulting religious values is a crime. This subject has been in the media a good many times. Therefore, libelous statements against religious values are neither thoughts nor forms of expression. This must be kept in mind not only by France, but also by all European countries. On the other hand, certain circles may deliberately keep addressing this issue. If states and ECHR’s rulings fail to stop such aggressive acts, what should Muslims do? Muslims should definitely not resort to any act of violence. The barbarity called “terror” is the work of ignorant and bigot people who are remote from the Qur’anic morality, people who are in fact murderers who have nothing to do with faith. We need to remember that all kinds of terrorist acts are violence and corruption in the view of Islam. Terrorists commit such violence only with the intention of attacking religion itself. It may well be that those who carried out this violence did so to present religion as evil in the eyes of people, to divorce people from religion and to generate hatred towards those who are religiously inclined. Consequently, every attack on undefended and innocent people is actually an attack made against religion. The cultural solution to these people and groups who perpetrate violence under the guise of religion, no matter which, is to teach people the true teachings and morality of Islam. In other words, Islam and Qur’anic morality do not support terrorism or terrorists, but in fact is the cure to save the world from the scourge of terrorism. What Muslims should do in the face of attacks against Islam is to struggle by means of the law, ideas and knowledge and this is what the reason, logic and the law requires. This attitude is the one compatible with the moral values of the Qur’an that Allah expects of Muslims. Even though this was considered as one of the most expensive elections in the American history with approximately 4 billion in donations, the turnout was quite low at 38%. Some quick facts about the US congressional elections: congress consists of two chambers called the House of Representatives and the Senate. Both the 435 members of the House and the one third of the Senators are elected every two years. In addition to the House and Senate elections, Americans also voted for 38 governors. While Republicans were able to maintain almost all the incumbents in office, the Democrats lost some seats to the Republicans. Where did the votes go? In the governorship races, Republicans had more seats to retain compared to the Democrats. Not only did they retain incumbent members, they succeeded to gain seats from the retiring Democrat governors in Arkansas, Maryland and Massachusetts. Consequently, Republicans gained three new seats while the Democrats lost three. With his re-election Republican Terry Brasnstad become the longest serving governor in US history. He has initiated his sixth term as governor of Iowa. In the House of Representatives, the Republican Party won 246 seats (a net gain of 13 seats) and the Democratic Party, 180 seats. Finally in the Senate, the Republican Party won 23 (a net gain of eight seats) and the Democratic Party won 12. The race in Louisiana is headed to a run-off) in December 2014. The most expensive elections in American history What marked these midterm elections the most is the donors granting greater amounts of fund, 3.67 billion dollars according to the Center for Responsive Politics. It is important to note it as one of the most expensive elections despite the decline in the number of donors. Due to the restrained campaigns and the indifference of the voters, the turnout was fairly low, which concerned Democrats of losing their seats in the Senate. Regrettably, their fear came true and they lost their majority. An arbitrary but interesting comparison to let’s say the country of Tunisia’s governmental election, in which Tunisians went to the polls to vote for their new government. The government election was a huge success in terms of enthusiasm for the ballot box since Tunisia is in a transformation phase towards democracy. More than 90% citizens voted, which is quite a surprise when compared to the 38% turnout in the American midterm elections. President Obama praised the Tunisians for this high turnout and described it as an important stepforward. The number of young American voters declined enormously which shaped 13% of the votes. Although it rose one percent since 2010 elections, young Americans have been apathetic towards voting for more than a decade. There are however various reasons for that indifference. Ashley Spillane, president of the non-partisan group Rock the Vote, relates this issue partly on the politicians not talking to the young voters, saying: “You have young Americans disproportionately impacted by unemployment and saddled in student debt, but you didn’t hear candidates talking about that.” Single women who have sympathy for Democrats declined in some amount in these elections. Surely, this decline in turnout cannot be the only reason for the Democrats losing in the Congress. Is the Congress acting on behalf Americans? The Congress is the legislative branch of the federal government that represents the American people. It is also the only branch of the government that is elected directly by the citizens. When we evaluate the results of these midterm elections, we encounter a serious dissatisfaction of Americans with the President’s domestic and foreign policies. Americans want to see a President they can be proud of and give voice to their needs, yet they are not pleased with the choices he makes. There is a huge gap between the government and the people and it is getting wider everyday. The current American political system does not give many choices to the people in terms of elections. Citizens have to vote either for the Republicans or the Democrats, there is no third option. Contrary to popular belief, the two parties, which mostly cater to elites, do not differentiate in many ways and basically work together. For example, anonymous donors give financial support to both parties during the electoral campaigns and that makes sure the government sets the economic agenda in favor of these elites. Interestingly, 95% of the wealth created since Obama came to office has gone to the elite and the wealthy. When the voters are dissatisfied with the party in power, with no third option left, they punish the governing party by electing the other in return. This cyclical and robotic behavior of voters is generally acknowledged, but there isn’t much that they can do even though most are frustrated and unsatisfied. For Americans to exercise democracy with more freedom, they should be given more options than just a two party system to represent themselves in Congress. Additionally, private donors should be disclosed and the amount they can donate should be limited in order to prevent their influence on the outcome, and the creation of inequality. Restoring American ideals not just through votes In order to restore the American dream, Americans should become more proactive about the issues facing them, and the people in power should be open to understanding the needs of the American people. The United States is a beautiful country with vast fertile lands and its people are cheerful and intellectual people full of love. However due to bad decisions by its leaders and erroneous policies many countries around the world have a negative view of the US. Its economy is also in trouble, in just the month of September 2014, US recorded a trade deficit of 43.03 billion dollars. Many countries do not want to make trade agreements with the US because of anti-American hype. It is the duty of Obama and the members of the Congress to work together and implement policies that are peaceful and beneficial to the American people, and rest of the world. Other countries should also help to restore and make America like it used to be. We should help revive America, make it vivacious, lively like the old times. It’s important to show America as a beautiful, affectionate and polite country. Let America come forward with its compassion, honesty, good intention, giving utmost importance to culture and science. Let America be the joy of the world like it used to be. Let everyone have the American dream they have been seeking. মুক্তিযুদ্ধের শতশত বাণী রচনা করে গিয়েছেন আমাদের জ্ঞানীগুনিরা তাদের সকল বাণী পায়ের তলায় পিশে ফেলে একজন ধর্মদ্রোহী কুত্তার বাণী আজ তাদের কাছে এত প্রিয় কেন জানতে মনে চায়! আওয়ামিলীগের রায়ে বাঙ্গালী সন্তুষ্ট নয় একজন দেশ প্রেমিক হিসেবে আসলে কথাটা কতটুকু সত্য ? সাঈদী সাহেব কি সত্যিই একজন রাজাকার ছিলেন নাকি তাঁকে রাজাকার খেতাব জোড় করে দেয়া হচ্ছে? মুক্তিযোদ্ধার ছেলে নাকি চিত্‍কার দিয়ে বলে ,

বাবা তুমি রাজাকার কেন হলেনা ?

কথাটা অতি মূল্যবান এবং গা শিউরে উঠার মত একটি কথা ! ইসলামের পাখি আল্লামা সাঈদী রাজাকারকে কেন ফাঁসি দেওয়া হলনা ? হিন্দু কে কেন সে সঠিক পথ দেখিয়ে হেল্প করলেন ? একি কমসম রাজাকারি ?

টুপি মাথায় একজন নির্দোষ আলেম কে যখন মুস্টিমেয় কয়েকটা ছাগলের বাচ্চা ধর্ষনকারী গালিগালাজ করে হে বাঙ্গালী মুসলমানের বাচ্চা তোর কি লজ্জা করেনা ? টুপি মাথায় একজন নির্দোষ আলেম কে যখন চোর ,ছিনতাইকারী বলে হে বাঙ্গালী মুসলমানের বাচ্চা তোর কি লজ্জা করেনা ? যখন রাজাকারের চিহ্ন টুপি ,চাঁদ তারা এঁকে রাজাকারের বিচার চাই তখন কি তোর একবার ও বলতে ইচ্ছে হয়না যে রাজাকার কি শুধু মুসলমানের মধ্যেই ছিল ?

রাজাকারের বিচার চেয়ে কার্টুন এঁকে যেভাবে ইসলামে সুন্নতের অবমাননা(টুপিকে,চাঁদ,তারা ইসলামের চিহ্ন) হচ্ছে তাতে আজ বাঙ্গালী মুসলমানের ভ্রুক্ষেপ নেই! একজন নির্দোষ আলেমকে ধর্ষনকারী ,ছিনতাইকারী বানানো হচ্ছে তাতেও বাঙ্গালীর ভ্রুক্ষেপ নেই ! তারা যে আজ টাকার গোলাম ! নিজেকে বাঙ্গালী বলতে লজ্জা হওয়া দরকার ! কেননা বাঙ্গালী আজ তার সাহস ,প্রতিবাদের ভাষা হারিয়ে ফেলেছে। সেই তীতুমীর,সিরাজউদদৌলা ,শরীয়ত উল্লাহ,ভাসানী,৭১ এর সকল শহীদ,শেরেবাংলা ,সোহরাওয়ার্দি,বঙ্গবন্ধু ,জিয়া আর উসমানিরাই নিজেদের বাঙ্গালী বলে পরিচয় দেওয়ার যোগ্যতা রাখে ।সাহসের সাথে কথা বলেছে ,কাজ করেছে নির্ভয়ে , তারা অপমান করেনি কোন আলিম কে ,স্বার্থ দেখেনি কখনো । আল্লামা সাঈদীকে যেই আপরাধে আজ ধর্ষনকারী,ছিনতাই কারী বলা হচ্ছে সে অপরাধ আদৌ সাঈদী করেছে কিনা তার প্রমাণ রাখে এই লেখাটি→। প্রায় ৩ বছর আগে আমার স্যার অরুন চন্দ্র দাসের সাথে আমার পিরোজপুর যাওয়ার সৌভাগ্য হয় সেই সাথে চায়ের দোকানে বসা প্রায় ০৫ জন হিন্দুর সাথেও কথা বলার সুযোগ হয় ।আমি নিম্নে সেই ০৫ জন হিন্দুর বক্তব্য হুবহু তুলে ধরলাম ,তার আগে বলে রাখি আমার স্যার অরুন হিন্দু হলেও সাঈদী ভক্ত একজন মানুষ তিনি তার আত্মীয়দের কাছ থেকে সাঈদী সম্বন্ধে ভাল তথ্য নিয়েছে । সেখানে আমার স্যার প্রশ্নটা রেখেছিলেন,

আসলেই কি সাঈদী রাজাকার আছেলনি ?ধর্ষন ও করছে হুনলাম !

এরপর শুনুন একজন নয় পুরা ৫জন বৃদ্ধ হিন্দু আমার স্যারকে যেভাবে খিস্তি দিলো:

১/অমল চন্দ্র:এ মেয়া এলাকায় নতুন আইছ ?সাঈদী যদি রাজাকার অয় হেলে ফুল বাংগালি রাজাকার । ২/কার্তিক চন্দ্র দাস:বাঈ এহেইনে বইয়া কইছেন কইছেন এলাকার ভিত্রে গিয়া কৈবেনছেন তাইলে কিন্তু হাড্ডি থাকপেনা। ৩/অধির হালদার:বাংগালির হুনা কতায় গুনা দোষ !এইরোম একটা মানু অয় এই পিরিচপুরে ?আর হ্যারে আইজ জেলে হান্দাইয়া থুইছে ! ৪/অসিম খাসকেল:অধির হ্যা কৈয়া লাব কি ? হুনছি মোগো অশোইক্কার বাপে নাহি হের বিরুদ্দে সাক্ষী দেতে যাইবে ! ৫/রতন কুন্ডু:বাঈ যে যায় যাউক মোগো বাড়িইদ্দা কেউ যামুনা ।এইরোম একটা মাইনষের মুহের দিক চাইয়া কেমনে মিছা কতা কয় ?যে যেরোম থাহে থাউক দোহানপাডে বইয়া এ আলোচনা না করাই ভালো ।

সেদিনকার ঐ আলোচনা এখানেই শেষ হয়েছিল কিন্তু ঐ আলোচনাটা আমার হৃদয়ে আঘাত করে চরম ভাবে !কি করে এই লোকটা একজন রাজাকার হয় যেখানে বিধর্মীরা তার পক্ষে কথা বলে ? আওয়ামিলীগের রায়ে তিলকে তাল করা যায় ।সাঈদীর ব্যাপারটাও হয়েছে তেমন ।কি আর বলার আছে ? শুধু বলি একটাই , সাঈদী আল্লাহর বাণী মানুষের কাছে পৌঁছাত আল্লাহ্ই তাঁকে দেখবে।

মন্তব্য প্রতিবেদন : বল্গাহীন দুর্নীতি ও ম্রিয়মাণ টিআইবি মাহমুদুর রহমান ২০০৯ সালের ডিসেম্বরের দ্বিতীয় সপ্তাহ। সহকর্মী জ্যেষ্ঠ সাংবাদিক এম. আবদুল্লাহ্ জ্বালানি মন্ত্রণালয়ের কিছু কাগজপত্র হাতে খানিকটা উত্তেজিত হয়েই আমার অফিস কক্ষে এলেন। কাগজ-পত্র ঘেঁটে দেখলাম, পাঁচ মিলিয়ন ডলার (৪১ কোটি টাকা) ঘুষ গ্রহণের অভিযোগের তদন্ত নিয়ে জ্বালানি মন্ত্রণালয় এবং পেট্রোবাংলার মধ্যে চিঠি চালাচালি চলছে। অভিযোগের তীর জ্বালানি উপদেষ্টা ড. তৌফিক এলাহী চৌধুরী এবং প্রধানমন্ত্রী পুত্র সজীব ওয়াজেদ জয়ের দিকে। জ্বালানি মন্ত্রণালয়ের উপদেষ্টা, প্রতিমন্ত্রী, সচিব এবং পেট্রোবাংলার চেয়ারম্যানের মন্তব্যসহ আমি সংবাদটি ছাপার অনুমতি দিলাম। প্রধানমন্ত্রী শেখ হাসিনার সরকার তখন দোর্দণ্ড প্রতাপে রাষ্ট্র চালাচ্ছে। জনগণের সঙ্গে সরকারের মধুচন্দ্রিমার উষ্ণতা তখনও পুরোপুরি শীতল হয়নি। বেশ ক’জন সহকর্মী সংবাদটি ছাপানোর বিপদ সম্পর্কে আমাকে সাবধান করেছিলেন। সত্য কথা বলা এবং লেখায় কারও সাবধানবাণীতে কর্ণপাত করা বরাবরই আমার স্বভাববিরুদ্ধ। ২০০৯ সালের ডিসেম্বরের ১৭ তারিখে মহাজোট আমলের প্রথম দুর্নীতি সংক্রান্ত সংবাদ আমার দেশ পত্রিকায় ছাপা হলো। খবর ছাপা হওয়া মাত্র মৌচাকে ঢিল পড়ল। জেলায় জেলায় আমার বিরুদ্ধে মামলা দায়ের এবং কুশপুত্তলিকা দাহের প্রতিযোগিতা আরম্ভ হলো। আগে জানতাম, মানহানির মামলা কেবল সংক্ষুব্ধ ব্যক্তিরাই করতে পারেন এবং সেটাও একটিমাত্র মামলাই। ‘স্বাধীন’ বিচার বিভাগের জামানায় আমার জানাটা ভুল প্রমাণিত হতে সময় লাগল না। একে একে একই অভিযোগে ছাব্বিশটি মামলা দায়েরের বিশ্ব রেকর্ড তৈরি হলো। প্রধানমন্ত্রীর কার্যালয়ের লিখিত নির্দেশে প্রশাসনের তাবত্ অংশ একসঙ্গে আমাকে জন্মের মতো শিক্ষা দেয়ার অতীব গুরুত্বপূর্ণ রাষ্ট্রীয় কার্য সম্পাদনে ঝাঁপিয়ে পড়ল। তার পরের ইতিহাস দেশবাসী জানেন। আমার দেশ পত্রিকার প্রকাশনা বন্ধ এবং আমাকে জেলে পুরে সরকার এদেশে দুর্নীতিবিরোধী সব কণ্ঠ রোধ করতে চেয়েছিল। প্রশাসনের সঙ্গে তাল মিলিয়ে দেশের সর্বোচ্চ আদালতের মাননীয় বিচারপতিরাও আমাকে নজিরবিহীনভাবে সাজা দিয়ে উদাহরণ সৃষ্টি করতে চেয়েছিলেন। তারা আশা করেছিলেন আমার করুণ পরিণতি দেখার পর বাংলাদেশের আর কোনো নাগরিক অন্যায়ের প্রতিবাদে সাহসী হবে না। কিন্তু, তারা ইতিহাসের শিক্ষা ভুলে গিয়েছিলেন। সরকারের সাড়ে তিন বছর অন্তে আজ দেখা যাচ্ছে, আমি জেল খেটেছি বটে, তবে মহাজোট সরকারের যাবতীয় অপকর্মের কেচ্ছা সারা বিশ্বের গণমাধ্যমে আলোচনার খোরাকে পরিণত হয়েছে। এই সময়ের মধ্যে অবশ্য মন্ত্রী-এমপিরা জনগণের অর্থ নির্বিচারে লুণ্ঠন করে সম্পদের পাহাড় গড়লেও বাংলাদেশ দেউলিয়া হয়ে গেছে। বর্তমান অবস্থা অব্যাহত থাকলে কিছুদিনের মধ্যেই কেবল রাজস্ব ব্যয় মেটানোর জন্যই দেশ-বিদেশে ভিক্ষাপাত্র হাতে অর্থমন্ত্রীকে ঘুরে বেড়াতে হবে। ভবিষ্যত্ উন্নয়ন কর্মসূচির অর্থায়নের হাল পদ্মা সেতুর অবস্থা থেকেই সবার বোঝা উচিত। অনেক টানাপড়েনের পর গত শনিবার দুর্নীতির সুনির্দিষ্ট অভিযোগে বিশ্বব্যাংক বাংলাদেশের সঙ্গে পদ্মা সেতু অর্থায়ন চুক্তি বাতিল করতে বলা চলে একরকম বাধ্যই হয়েছে। প্রায় এক বছর ধরে বিশ্বব্যাংকের কর্তাব্যক্তিরা পদ্মা সেতু প্রকল্পের পরামর্শক নিয়োগ প্রক্রিয়ায় দুর্নীতি তদন্তে বাংলাদেশ সরকারকে চাপ দিয়ে যাচ্ছিল। ওদিকে কানাডীয় পুলিশ সেদেশের বিশ্বখ্যাত পরামর্শক প্রতিষ্ঠান এসএনসি-লাভালিনের অফিসে অভিযান চালিয়ে এ সংক্রান্ত কাগজপত্র হাতে পাওয়ার পর বিশ্বব্যাংককে দুর্নীতির বিষয়ে সম্যক অবহিত করেছিল। সরকার বা বিশ্বব্যাংক কোনো পক্ষই সেই দুর্নীতিতে বাংলাদেশের কারা কারা জড়িত সে বিষয়ে আজ পর্যন্ত সরাসরি মুখ না খুললেও বিভিন্ন সূত্র থেকে শোনা যাচ্ছিল, কেবল সাবেক যোগাযোগমন্ত্রী আবুল হোসেনই নন, ঘুষ দাবি অথবা লেনদেন প্রক্রিয়ায় সরকারের আরও ওপরের ক্ষমতাশালীরাও জড়িত। ৩৮০ কোটি টাকা ব্যয়ে পরামর্শক নিয়োগে মোটামুটি দশ শতাংশ ঘুষের নাকি রফা হয়েছিল। ঘুষের এই হারকে ক্ষমতাসীনদের স্ট্যান্ডার্ড ধরে হিসেব কষলে এক পদ্মা সেতু থেকেই প্রায় ৪ হাজার কোটি টাকা লুটপাটের বন্দোবস্ত করা হয়েছিল। বিএনপির দুর্নীতিবাজদের মতো আওয়ামী লীগ যে ছিটেফোঁটায় সন্তুষ্ট হয় না, সেটা এবারের সাড়ে তিন বছরের মেয়াদে তারা বহু ঘটনায় জনগণের কাছে প্রমাণ দিয়েছে। মাশাল্লাহ্ গলার জোরও যে আওয়ামী নেতাদের অনেক বেশি, সে বিষয়টি বাবু সুরঞ্জিত সেনগুপ্ত প্রতিদিনই টেলিভিশনে দেখাচ্ছেন। বিএনপি আমলে জ্বালানি প্রতিমন্ত্রী একেএম মোশাররফ হোসেন গ্যাস কোম্পানি নাইকো’র কাছ থেকে কেবল একটি গাড়ি মন্ত্রণালয়ের ভারপ্রাপ্ত মন্ত্রী হিসেবে ব্যবহারের জন্য নিয়ে মন্ত্রিত্ব হারিয়েছিলেন। এর বাইরে এখন পর্যন্ত তার বিরুদ্ধে অতিরিক্ত অপ্রমাণিত অভিযোগ হলো, বিদেশ ভ্রমণকালে ওই কানাডীয় কোম্পানির কাছ থেকেই তিনি নাকি মাত্র ৫ হাজার ডলার (চার লাখ টাকা) রাহা খরচ হিসেবে গ্রহণ করেছিলেন। এতেই দুদকের লাফালাফি দেখে কে! অপরদিকে সুরঞ্জিত বাবুর এপিএস রাতদুপুরে ঘুষের ৭০ লাখ টাকা (দুষ্ট লোকে বলে টাকার প্রকৃত অংক কয়েক কোটি) মন্ত্রীর বাড়িতে পৌঁছে দেয়ার সময় গাড়ি চালকের সাহসিকতায় বমাল ধরা পড়লেও এককালের বাম নেতা এখনও জনগণের টাকায় মন্ত্রীর ফ্ল্যাগ উড়িয়ে চলেছেন। দুই কান কাটাদের আধিক্যের ফলেই রাজনীতির আজ এই হতশ্রী দশা। সুরঞ্জিত সেনগুপ্তের সুপুত্র মাত্র ষাট হাজার টাকা নিজের পুঁজি নিয়ে (!) নগদ পাঁচ কোটি টাকায় টেলিকম লাইসেন্স নিয়েছেন। মন্ত্রীপুত্রের দাবি, লোকজন তাকে নাকি শুধু ভালোবেসে এই বিপুল অংকের অর্থ ঋণ দিয়েছে। সরকারের লেজুড়ের ভূমিকায় অবতীর্ণ ‘স্বাধীন’ দুদক সুরঞ্জিতপুত্রের সেই ভালোবাসার দাবি মেনে নিয়ে এরই মধ্যে মন্ত্রীকে সচ্চরিত্রের সার্টিফিকেট দেয়ার আয়োজনও প্রায় সম্পন্ন করেছে। একই দুদক অবশ্য এর আগে পদ্মা সেতু ইস্যুতেই মন্ত্রী আবুল হোসেনকেও সততার সার্টিফিকেট দিয়েছে। আমার পরিচিত এক অধ্যাপক চেয়ারম্যান গোলাম রহমানের দুদককে ‘আওয়ামী লীগের ধোপা’ নামকরণ করেছেন। ক্ষমতাসীন দলটির মন্ত্রী-এমপিদের গায়ে লেগে থাকা দুর্নীতির কালিমাগুলো পরিষ্কার করে তাদের সাদা করে দেয়াই নাকি প্রতিষ্ঠানটির অন্যতম প্রধান কাজ। অধ্যাপক মহোদয়ের রসবোধে আমি চমত্কৃত হয়েছি। পদ্মা সেতু প্রকল্প বাতিলের ঘোষণা দিয়ে বিশ্বব্যাংক যে আনুষ্ঠানিক বিবৃতি প্রকাশ করেছে, তার মর্মার্থ অর্থাত্ ইংরেজিতে যাকে between the line meaning বলা হয়ে থাকে সেটি বুঝতে পারলে বাংলাদেশের ভবিষ্যত্ ভেবে যে কোনো নাগরিক আতঙ্কিত বোধ করবেন। সেই বিবৃতি থেকে কয়েকটি লাইন এখানে উদ্ধৃত করছি : The world bank has credible evidence corroborated by a variety of sources which points to a high level corruption conspiracy... (বিশ্বব্যাংকের কাছে কয়েকটি উত্স দ্বারা সমর্থিত বিশ্বাসযোগ্য প্রমাণ রয়েছে যে উচ্চ পর্যায়ে দুর্নীতির ষড়যন্ত্র হয়েছে ...) (দুর্নীতির প্রমাণ পাওয়ার পর বিশ্বব্যাংক চোখ বন্ধ করে থাকতে পারে না, থাকা উচিত নয় এবং থাকবে না। আমাদের নৈতিক দায়বদ্ধতা এবং ব্যাংকের অংশীদার ও আন্তর্জাতিক উন্নয়ন সহযোগী রাষ্ট্রগুলোর কাছে আইনগত বাধ্যবাধকতা রয়েছে।) বিশ্বব্যাংকের আনুষ্ঠানিক বিবৃতি থেকে স্পষ্ট বোঝা যাচ্ছে যে, পদ্মা সেতু দুর্নীতিতে এ দেশের শাসকগোষ্ঠীর ওপর মহলের হাত রয়েছে এবং প্রায় এক বছর আগেই দুর্নীতির প্রমাণাদি প্রধানমন্ত্রী, অর্থমন্ত্রী ও দুদক চেয়ারম্যানের কাছে হস্তান্তর করা হয়েছে। কাজেই পদ্মা চুক্তি অর্থায়ন বাতিলের দায় দুর্নীতিতে অভিযুক্ত ব্যক্তিবর্গসহ এই তিন ব্যক্তি এড়াতে পারেন না। এখন মুখরক্ষার জন্য সরকার বায়বীয় মালয়েশীয় বিনিয়োগ নিয়ে মিথ্যাচারে লিপ্ত হয়েছে। মালয়শিয়ার প্রস্তাব বাংলাদেশের জন্য প্রচণ্ড ব্যয়বহুল হওয়া সত্ত্বেও যোগাযোগমন্ত্রী ওবায়দুল কাদের জাতিকে ধোঁকা দেয়ার জন্য দাবি করছেন যে, বিশ্বব্যাংক ঋণের চেয়ে পদ্মা সেতু প্রকল্পে মালয়েশীয় অর্থায়ন নাকি সাশ্রয়ী হবে। বাণীর রাজা নামে খ্যাত এই মন্ত্রী বাংলাদেশের জনগণকে সম্ভবত একেবারেই মূর্খ ও নির্বোধ বিবেচনা করেন। বিশ্বব্যাংকের যে কোনো ঋণে সর্বোচ্চ সুদের হার ০.৭৫ শতাংশ এবং সচরাচর ৩০ থেকে ৪০ বছরের মধ্যে সেই ঋণ পরিশোধ করতে হয়। একমাত্র সরাসরি অনুদান ছাড়া অন্য কোনো সূত্র থেকে এর চেয়ে সুলভে ঋণ পাওয়ার অন্য কোনো উপায় আমার অন্তত জানা নেই। তথাকথিত মালয়েশীয় বিনিয়োগ সম্পর্কে এ পর্যন্ত পত্রপত্রিকায় যেসব তথ্য-উপাত্ত প্রকাশিত হয়েছে, তার ভিত্তিতে দেশের সব অর্থনীতিবিদই এই সিদ্ধান্তে উপনীত হয়েছেন যে, ওদের শর্ত মেনে নিলে পদ্মা সেতুর ব্যয় তিন থেকে চার গুণ বৃদ্ধি পাবে। এতদিন সততার ডঙ্কা বাজিয়ে ওবায়দুল কাদের অবশেষে স্বমূর্তিতে আবির্ভূত হয়েছেন। এদিকে দুর্নীতির বিরুদ্ধে জেহাদকারী প্রতিষ্ঠান ট্রান্সপারেন্সি ইন্টারন্যাশনাল বাংলাদেশ (টিআইবি) পদ্মা সেতু ইস্যুতে সবাইকে চমকে দিয়ে বাংলাদেশ সরকারের সহযোগীর ভূমিকায় অবতীর্ণ হয়েছে। তারা এক তাত্ক্ষণিক বিবৃতিতে শাসকগোষ্ঠীর বল্গাহীন দুর্নীতির সমালোচনার পরিবর্তে বিশ্বব্যাংককেই অপরাধীর কাঠগড়ায় দাঁড় করিয়েছে। প্রতিষ্ঠানটির প্রধান নির্বাহী ড. ইফতেখারুজ্জামান এই প্রসঙ্গে বলেছেন, অর্থায়ন বন্ধ করে সরকার ও দেশের মানুষকে কষ্ট দেয়ার অধিকার বিশ্বব্যাংকের নেই। টিআইবি পদ্মা সেতু প্রকল্পে দুর্নীতির একটি বিচার বিভাগীয় তদন্তেরও দাবি জানিয়েছে। আশ্চর্যের বিষয় হলো, এই টিআইবিই গত বছর তাদের এক প্রতিবেদনে বিচার বিভাগকে বাংলাদেশের সর্বাপেক্ষা দুর্নীতিগ্রস্ত প্রতিষ্ঠানের ‘মর্যাদা’ দান করেছিল। সর্বাধিক দুর্নীতিগ্রস্ত প্রতিষ্ঠানের লোকজন দিয়ে দুর্নীতি তদন্তের দাবির চেয়ে স্ববিরোধী প্রস্তাব আর কী হতে পারে? আর বিচার বিভাগের স্বাধীনতা? মার্কিন পররাষ্ট্র মন্ত্রণালয় তাদের এ বছরের বার্ষিক প্রতিবেদনে বাংলাদেশ বিচার বিভাগের যাবতীয় দুর্বলতা সম্পর্কে বিশদ আলোচনা করেছে। মার্কিন স্টেট ডিপার্টমেন্ট বলেছে, বাংলাদেশের বিচার বিভাগে রাজনৈতিক দলীয়করণ এমন ভয়াবহ পর্যায়ে পৌঁছেছে যে, সেখানে বিরোধী দলের লোকজন কিংবা ভিন্ন মতাবলম্বীদের সুবিচার প্রাপ্তির আর কোনো পরিবেশ অবশিষ্ট নেই। এহেন বিচার বিভাগীয় তদন্তের পরিণাম স্বাধীন দুদকের তদন্তের চাইতে ভিন্নতর কিছু হওয়ার কোনো সম্ভাবনা নেই। মাঝখান থেকে মন্ত্রী আবুল হোসেনের ফুলের মতো চরিত্রের আরও একটি সনদপ্রাপ্তির সুব্যবস্থা হয়ে যাবে। দেশের অধিকাংশ নাগরিক যখন সরকারের দুর্নীতির বহরে লজ্জায় অধোবদন, সেই সময় বিভ্রান্তিকর সব প্রস্তাব উত্থাপন করে টিআইবি তাদের বিশ্বাসযোগ্যতাকেই প্রশ্নবিদ্ধ করেছে। অবশ্য টিআইবি’র বর্তমান ট্রাস্টি বোর্ড সম্পর্কে ধারণা থাকলে তাদের বিবৃতি অথবা দুর্নীতিপরায়ণ মহাজোট সরকারের ত্রাতার ভূমিকায় প্রতিষ্ঠানটির প্রধান নির্বাহী ড. ইফতেখারুজ্জামানের অবতীর্ণ হওয়ার পেছনের কারণ বুঝে ফেলা শক্ত নয়। ট্রান্সপারেন্সি ইন্টারন্যাশনাল বাংলাদেশের বর্তমান চেয়ারম্যান সুলতানা কামাল চক্রবর্তী আমাদের প্রধানমন্ত্রী শেখ হাসিনার অত্যন্ত ঘনিষ্ঠজন হিসেবেই সারাদেশে সুপরিচিত। তিনি ২০০৬ সালে আওয়ামী লীগের পছন্দের ব্যক্তিরূপে ড. ইয়াজউদ্দিনের তত্ত্বাবধায়ক সরকারের উপদেষ্টা হয়েছিলেন। পরবর্তীকালে সেই সরকার থেকে পদত্যাগকারী চারজন উপদেষ্টার অন্যতম ছিলেন সুলতানা কামাল চক্রবর্তী। সেই পদত্যাগের পথ ধরেই এক এগারোর সামরিক অভ্যুত্থান সংঘটিত হয়েছিল। প্রতিষ্ঠানটির ট্রাস্টি বোর্ডের আর একজন প্রভাবশালী সদস্যের নাম অ্যাডভোকেট তৌফিক নেওয়াজ। বাংলাদেশের এই বিশিষ্ট আইনজীবীর আরও একটি পরিচয় হলো, তিনি আমাদের পররাষ্ট্রমন্ত্রী মিজ দীপু মনির স্বামী। আপন স্ত্রী যে সরকারে পররাষ্ট্রমন্ত্রী, সেই সরকারের দুর্নীতির বিষয়ে তার ভূমিকা কী হতে পারে সেটি নিশ্চয়ই বলার অপেক্ষা রাখে না। একই ট্রাস্টি বোর্ডে আছেন সাবেক চিফ ইলেকশন কমিশনার ড. শামসুল হুদা। ২০০৮ সালের ডিজিটাল নির্বাচনের এই প্রধান ব্যক্তি মইনউদ্দিন জামানায় বিএনপিকে বিভক্ত করার ‘মহত্’ কাজে সর্বশক্তি নিয়োগ করেছিলেন। সাবেক এই আমলা প্রধান নির্বাচন কমিশনারের দায়িত্ব পালনকালে চারদলীয় জোট সরকারের প্রতি গণমাধ্যমের কাছে অসন্তোষ প্রকাশ করে বলেছিলেন যে, বেগম খালেদা জিয়ার সরকার তার মেধার যথোপযুক্ত মূল্যায়ন করেনি। এহেন একজন দলবাজ টিআইবিতে থেকে যে আওয়ামী লীগের স্বার্থের পক্ষেই প্রভাব খাটানোর চেষ্টা করবেন, সেটা বুঝতে কারও সমস্যা হওয়ার কথা নয়। টিআইবি’র বর্তমান ট্রাস্টি বোর্ডের সেক্রেটারি জেনারেল, বিশিষ্ট কথাসাহিত্যিক সেলিনা হোসেনের আওয়ামী লীগ প্রীতির ব্যাপারটিও শিক্ষিত জনগোষ্ঠীর মোটামুটি জানা রয়েছে। এই ক’জন ছাড়াও প্রতিষ্ঠানটির ট্রাস্টি বোর্ডে অন্য যেসব বিশিষ্ট ব্যক্তি রয়েছেন, তাদের মধ্যেও আওয়ামীপন্থীদের সংখ্যাধিক্য চোখে পড়ার মতো। সুতরাং বিএনপি সরকারের সময় টিআইবি দুর্নীতির বিরুদ্ধে যতখানি আদর্শিক ও নৈতিক অবস্থান প্রদর্শন করেছিল, শেখ হাসিনার প্রধানমন্ত্রিত্বকালে সেটি তাদের কাছে আশা করাটাই বোকামি। তাছাড়া স্মরণে রাখা দরকার, টিআইবিতে এখনও ড. মোজাফফর আহমেদের মতো ব্যক্তির শূন্যতা পূরণ হয়নি। বাংলাদেশের সুশীল (?) সমাজের এক বিরাট গোষ্ঠীর নিরপেক্ষতা প্রশ্নবিদ্ধ হওয়ার কারণেই এদেশে সিভিল সোসাইটি মুভমেন্ট পাশ্চাত্যের মতো বিকশিত হতে পারেনি। মার্কিন যুক্তরাষ্ট্রের নেতৃত্বে পশ্চিমা রাষ্ট্রগুলো বাংলাদেশের রাজনীতিতে সুশীল (?) সমাজকে প্রতিষ্ঠিত করার প্রাণান্তকর প্রচেষ্টা চালালেও এই কারণেই আজ পর্যন্ত তাদের প্রচেষ্টা দেশের সাধারণ নাগরিকের কাছে গ্রহণযোগ্যতা পায়নি। পদ্মা সেতু দুর্নীতি নিয়ে টিআইবি’র এবারের বিতর্কিত অবস্থান কেবল সুশীল (?) সমাজকেই যে নতুন করে প্রশ্নবিদ্ধ করবে তাই নয়, এদেশে দুর্নীতির বিরুদ্ধে সাধারণ নাগরিকের স্বতঃস্ফূর্ত লড়াইকেও দুর্বল করে ফেলবে। আওয়ামী লীগ সরকারে থাকলে যদি টিআইবি’র দুর্নীতির বিরুদ্ধে অবস্থান নিতে সমস্যা হয়, তাহলে সবিনয়ে অন্তত তাদেরকে নীরব থাকতেই অনুরোধ জানাব। মহাজোট সরকারের গত সাড়ে তিন বছরের অপশাসনকালে টিআইবিকে অধিকাংশ ক্ষেত্রে আগের তুলনায় নিষ্ক্রিয় ঠেকেছে। বর্তমান সরকারের মেয়াদের বাকি দেড় বছরও তারা একটি দীর্ঘ শীতকালীন নিদ্রা (যরনবত্হধঃরড়হ) দিলে সবারই মঙ্গল হবে। বাংলাদেশের সচেতন দেশপ্রেমিক জনগোষ্ঠী দুর্নীতিপরায়ণ শাসকশ্রেণীর বিরুদ্ধে তাদের লড়াইয়ে টিআইবি মার্কা প্রতিষ্ঠানের সহযোগিতা ছাড়াই ইন্শাআল্লাহ বিজয় লাভ করবে। ই মেইল : admahmudrahman@ gmail.com

ﺑﺴﻢ ﺍﻟﻠﻪ ﺍﻟﺮﺣﻤﻦ ﺍﻟﺮﺣﻴﻢ বুধবার , ১৬ জানুয়ারী, ২০১৩ Harunar Rashid এই সময়ে ১০:৩৬ pm মন্তব্য প্রতিবেদন : জনগণের কাছে ন্যায়বিচার চাই মাহমুদুর রহমান আজ বুধবার, ১৬ জানুয়ারি, ইংরেজি সাল ২০১৩। আমার অফিস বন্দিত্বের এক মাস ৩ দিন চলছে। এর মধ্যে এ মাসের ৮ তারিখে হাইকোর্টে একবার আগাম জামিনের আবেদন নিয়ে দাঁড়িয়েছিলাম। আমার দেশ পত্রিকার নিয়মিত পাঠক মাত্রই জানেন, সংশ্লিষ্ট হাইকোর্ট বেঞ্চ সেদিন দীর্ঘ শুনানি শেষে আমার আবেদন ফিরিয়ে দিয়ে সিনিয়র কোনো বেঞ্চে যাওয়ার মৌখিক পরামর্শ দিয়েছিলেন। অবশ্য যে লিখিত আদেশ পরদিন বিচারপতিদ্বয় দিয়েছেন, সেখানে বোধগম্য কারণে ‘সিনিয়র বেঞ্চ’ এই কথাটি আর রাখেননি। বিচারপতি কামরুল ইসলাম সিদ্দিকী এবং বিচারপতি শেখ মো. জাকির হোসেন তাদের আদেশে লিখেছেন, Let it go out of list with liberty to mention the matter before any other appropriate bench (আবেদনটি তালিকার বাইরে পাঠানো হোক এই স্বাধীনতা সহকারে যাতে অন্য কোনো উপযুক্ত বেঞ্চে উত্থাপন করা যায়)। হাইকোর্টে বেঞ্চ গঠনের সময় আদালতের গঠনবিধি অনুসারে প্রতিটি বেঞ্চের এখতিয়ার বিশদভাবে বর্ণনা করা থাকে। সাধারণত উচ্চ আদালতের সাপ্তাহিক ছুটি ব্যতীত যে কোনো দীর্ঘ ছুটির পরই হাইকোর্ট বেঞ্চ পুনর্গঠন করা হয়। এছাড়া প্রধান বিচারপতি চাইলে যে কোনো সময়ই বেঞ্চ নতুন করে গঠন করতে পারেন। এ বছরের শীতের ছুটির শেষে উচ্চ আদালত ২ জানুয়ারি থেকে খুলেছে। তার একদিন আগে অর্থাত্ ইংরেজি নববর্ষের প্রথম দিন প্রধান বিচারপতি মো. মোজাম্মেল হোসেন ২০১৩ইং সনের ১নং গঠনবিধি শিরোনামে হাইকোর্ট বিভাগের বেঞ্চ গঠন করেছেন। তার উপরোক্ত আদেশের ১৪ নম্বর সিরিয়ালে বিচারপতি কামরুল ইসলাম সিদ্দিকী এবং বিচারপতি শেখ মো. জাকির হোসেন সমন্বয়ে গঠিত হাইকোর্ট বেঞ্চের এখতিয়ার নিম্নরূপ : “একত্রে ডিভিশন বেঞ্চে বসিবেন এবং শুনানীর জন্য ডিভিশন বেঞ্চে গ্রহণযোগ্য ফৌজদারী মোশন; ফৌজদারী আপীল মঞ্জুরীর আবেদনপত্র এবং তত্সংক্রান্ত জামিনের আবেদনপত্র; মঞ্জুরীকৃত আপীল ও তত্সংক্রান্ত জামিনের আবেদনপত্র; ২০০৮ইং সন পর্যন্ত ফৌজদারী বিবিধ এবং ফৌজদারী রিভিশন ও রেফারেন্স মোকদ্দমাসমূহ এবং উপরোল্লিখিত বিষয়াদি সংক্রান্ত রুল ও আবেদনপত্র গ্রহণ করিবেন।” আইনি ভাষার কূট- কচালি বাদ দিলে মোদ্দা কথা আমার মতো নাগরিকের আবেদন শুনানির জন্য উল্লিখিত দ্বৈত বেঞ্চকে প্রয়োজনীয় সব এখতিয়ার দেয়া হয়েছে। তারপরও আমার জামিন আবেদন বিষয়ে মাননীয় বিচারপতিদ্বয় কেন তাদের বেঞ্চকে উপযুক্ত বিবেচনা না করে অন্য কোথাও যেতে আদেশ দিলেন? এই প্রশ্নের জবাব পেতে হলে সেদিনকার আদালতের বিচিত্র পরিস্থিতি বয়ান করতে হবে। জানুয়ারির ২ তারিখ আদালত খুললেও আমার জামিন আবেদনের শুনানি উল্লিখিত বেঞ্চ ৮ তারিখের আগে শুনতে সম্মত হননি। আমার আইনজীবী অ্যাডভোকেট এ জে মোহাম্মদ আলী তার সাধ্যমত বোঝানোর চেষ্টা করেছেন যে, দেশের একজন নাগরিক হিসেবে আমি চরম নিরাপত্তাহীনতার মধ্যে সেই ১৩ ডিসেম্বর থেকে অফিসে অবরুদ্ধ রয়েছি, তাই শুনানি ৩ জানুয়ারি করা হোক। কিন্তু, আদালত অটল থেকে বলেছেন আগাম জামিন আবেদন শুনানির জন্য সপ্তাহের নির্ধারিত দিবস মঙ্গলবার ব্যতীত তারা আমার আবেদন শুনবেন না। এতে নাকি নিয়মের ব্যত্যয় হবে। অথচ বিশেষ ক্ষেত্রে মেনশনের দিনেই শুনানি হওয়ার ভূরি ভূরি নজির রয়েছে। তার মধ্য থেকে একটা প্রাসঙ্গিক উদাহরণ দেয়া যেতে পারে। ২০০০ সালে ইনকিলাব পত্রিকার সম্পাদক এ. এম. এম. বাহাউদ্দীনের জামিনের শুনানি গ্রহণের জন্য রাত দশটায় প্রধান বিচারপতির নির্দেশে হাইকোর্টে বিশেষ বেঞ্চ বসানো হয়েছিল এবং তিনি সে রাতে আগাম জামিনও পেয়েছিলেন। সম্পাদক বাহাউদ্দীনের বিরুদ্ধেও তত্কালীন শেখ হাসিনা সরকার আমার মতোই রাষ্ট্রদ্রোহ মামলা করেছিল। এখন অবশ্য তার সঙ্গে আওয়ামী লীগ সভানেত্রী ও প্রধানমন্ত্রী শেখ হাসিনার মধুর সম্পর্ক রয়েছে। আমি মাওলানা মান্নানের পুত্র, ইনকিলাব সম্পাদকের মতো ভাগ্যবান নই তাই ৬ দিন অপেক্ষা করেই হাইকোর্টে গেলাম। পথিমধ্যে গ্রেফতার হওয়ার আশঙ্কা থাকায় আমার সহকর্মী, জাতীয় প্রেস ক্লাবের সাধারণ সম্পাদক সৈয়দ আবদাল আহমদ এবং সুপ্রিমকোর্টের আইনজীবী, মানবাধিকার কর্মী অ্যাডভোকেট আদিলুর রহমান খান আমার দেশ অফিস থেকে একই গাড়িতে উঠলেন। বর্তমান বাংলাদেশে গ্রেফতার হওয়া কোনো বিষয় নয়, ইলিয়াস আলী, চৌধুরী আলমের মতো গুম হওয়াটাই অধিকতর আশঙ্কার। সেই জন্যই ছোটভাইসম দুই বন্ধু আমার সঙ্গেই আদালতে গেলেন। সাড়ে দশটায় আদালতে উঠতেই হতাশ হলাম। বিচারপতি কামরুল ইসলাম সিদ্দিকী জানালেন যে, শুনানি দুপুর দুটো পর্যন্ত মুলতবি থাকবে, কারণ ‘মহামহিম’ অ্যাটর্নি জেনারেল মাহবুবে আলম স্বয়ং আসবেন জামিনের বিরোধিতা করতে। আর তার অভিপ্রায় উপেক্ষা করবে এমন ক্ষমতা কার? সরকার আমার মতো এক নগণ্য নাগরিককে এতখানি সম্মান দেয়ায় পুলকিত বোধ করলাম। আমার আইনজীবীরা দেখলাম খুবই আত্মবিশ্বাসী। সরকারের দায়ের করা মামলা এতই বানোয়াট যে পাঁচ মিনিটে জামিন হয়ে যাবে, ইত্যাদি ইত্যাদি। আমি বাইরে কোনো প্রতিক্রিয়া না দেখালেও মনে মনে ঠিকই বুঝতে পেরেছিলাম ব্যাপারটা অত সহজ নয়। এটা প্রধানমন্ত্রী শেখ হাসিনার আমলে গঠিত বাংলাদেশের ‘স্বাধীন’ আদালত, যেখানে বেছে বেছে ‘সেরা’ ব্যক্তিদের ‘মাননীয়’ বিচারপতি পদে মনোনয়ন দেয়া হয়েছে। আমি চাইলাম আর তারা জামিন আবেদন মঞ্জুর করে ফেললেন, এতখানি আশাবাদী হতে পারছিলাম না। শেষ পর্যন্ত বেলা আড়াইটায় শুনানি শুরু হলো। কোথায় গেল পাঁচ মিনিটে জামিনের আশাবাদ। সাবেক অ্যাটর্নি জেনারেল এ জে মোহাম্মদ আলী আমার বিরুদ্ধে সরকারের অভিযোগ যে কতটা মিথ্যা, উদ্দেশ্যপ্রণোদিত, হয়রানিমূলক এবং বেআইনি সেটা বিভিন্ন ধারা উল্লেখপূর্বক দীর্ঘক্ষণ ধরে বলেই যাচ্ছেন। আর মাননীয় বিচারকদ্বয়ের একজন স্মিতমুখে এবং অপরজন দৃষ্টি সামনের ফাইলে নিবদ্ধ করে বিষম গাম্ভীর্যের সঙ্গে অসীম ধৈর্যসহকারে সেই নিবেদন শুনেই যাচ্ছেন। মনে হলো তারা সামান্য জামিনের বিষয়ে সিদ্ধান্ত নয়, মূল মামলার রায় যেন আজই দিয়ে ফেলবেন। প্রায় ঘণ্টাখানেক পর আমার পক্ষের আইনজীবী থামলেন। এবার অ্যাটর্নি জেনারেলের পালা। ততক্ষণ ঠায় দাঁড়িয়ে থেকে আমার পা ব্যথা হয়ে গেছে। অ্যাটর্নি জেনারেল মাহবুবে আলম তার নিজস্ব রাজনৈতিক বাচনভঙ্গিতে জামিন আবেদনের বিরোধিতা করে আধ ঘণ্টাখানেক বক্তৃতা দিলেন। তিনি বললেন, বিচারপতির সঙ্গে বিদেশে অবস্থানরত অপর এক ব্যক্তির চলমান মামলা সংক্রান্ত আলাপচারিতা প্রকাশ করার সিদ্ধান্ত নিয়ে আমিই নাকি মহা অপরাধ করে ফেলেছি যদিও হ্যাকিংয়ের সঙ্গে আমার কোনোরকম সম্পৃক্ততার প্রমাণ সরকারের কাছে নেই। সে সব বিষয় এখনও প্রাথমিক তদন্তের পর্যায়ে রয়েছে। বিচারপতির স্কাইপ সংলাপের প্রসঙ্গ উল্লেখ করে কোনো বিচারপতির এই আচরণ আইনসম্মত কিনা, আদালত সেটি জানতে চাইলে বিব্রত অ্যাটর্নি জেনারেল আমতা আমতা করে আন্তর্জাতিক ট্রাইব্যুনালের পদত্যাগী চেয়ারম্যানের পক্ষাবলম্বন করে কিছু একটা বলতে চাইলেন। আদালত কক্ষে উপস্থিত সবাই বুঝতে পারছিলেন যে, অ্যাডভোকেট মাহবুবে আলম বিষয়টি এড়িয়ে যেতে চাইছেন। তাছাড়া এখতিয়ার বহির্ভূতভাবে বিচারপতি শামসুদ্দিন চৌধুরী মানিকের আমার বিরুদ্ধে নজিরবিহীন রুল দেয়া প্রসঙ্গেও অ্যাটর্নি জেনারেল কোনো যুক্তি খাড়া করতে ব্যর্থ হলেন। সেই বেআইনি রুল অবশ্য আপিল বিভাগ ইতোমধ্যে স্থগিত করে দেয়ায় অ্যাডভোকেট মাহবুবে আলমের পক্ষে তার বিরোধিতা করাও সম্ভব হয়নি। বক্তব্যের শেষে তিনি আমার আদালত অবমাননার অভিযোগে সাজাপ্রাপ্তির পুরনো প্রসঙ্গ তুলে জামিন দেয়ার বিরোধিতা করলেন। অ্যাটর্নি জেনারেলের আর্গুমেন্টে আমি কৌতুক বোধ করছিলাম। আমার বিরুদ্ধে মামলার ধারা হলো রাষ্ট্রদ্রোহের, আর তিনি তুলছেন আদালত অবমাননার প্রসঙ্গ। অ্যাটর্নি জেনারেল আদালতে আমার জামিন আবেদন দাখিল নিয়েও অসত্য বক্তব্য দিলেন। আমার বিরুদ্ধে সরকার ১৩ ডিসেম্বর বৃহস্পতিবার রাতে মামলা দায়ের করলে আমি পরবর্তী কার্যদিবস অর্থাত্ সোমবার, ১৭ ডিসেম্বর হাইকোর্টে জামিন আবেদন দাখিল করি। অথচ অ্যাডভোকেট মাহবুবে আলম অম্লান বদনে দাবি করলেন, আমি নাকি ইচ্ছা করে ৮ জানুয়ারি জামিনের আবেদন করে মহা অন্যায় করে ফেলেছি। দুই পক্ষের সওয়াল-জবাব শেষ হলে আদালতের আদেশ দেয়ার পালা। আদেশ শুনে আদালতে উপস্থিত সবাই স্তম্ভিত। আমার মামলাটি নাকি এতই জটিল ও গুরুত্বপূর্ণ যে, আদালত তাদের চেয়েও সিনিয়র কোনো বেঞ্চে যাওয়ার পরামর্শ দিলেন। তালিকার মামলা দীর্ঘ দুই ঘণ্টা শুনানির পর উচ্চ আদালতের এমন আদেশ নজিরবিহীন। হাইকোর্টের বেঞ্চের এখতিয়ার সিনিয়র-জুনিয়র বিবেচনা করে নির্ধারিত হয় না। মাননীয় প্রধান বিচারপতি নিজ অভিপ্রায় অনুযায়ী সেটি নির্ধারণ করে দেন। ব্যারিস্টার মওদুদ আহমদ এবং অ্যাভভোকেট এ জে মোহাম্মদ আলী আদালতকে বিনীতভাবে অনুর োধ করলেন অন্তত পরবর্তী বেঞ্চে শুনানি না হওয়া পর্য ন্ত আমাকে যেন পুলিশ হয়রানি না করে এ ধরনের একটি মৌখিক আদেশ প্রদানের জন্য। কিন্তু আদালত সেই অনুরোধও প্রত্যাখ্যান করে শুধু বললেন, আমরা দুঃখিত। পীড়াপীড়ি করে তাদেরকে আর বিব্রত না করারও অনুরোধ করলেন। এদিকে আদালতের সময়ও ততক্ষণে প্রায় শেষ। ব্যারিস্টার মওদুদ আহমদ এবং অ্যাডভোকেট এ জে মোহাম্মদ আলীর তখন কিংকর্তব্যবিমূঢ় অবস্থা। ওই আদালত থেকে ছুটে বেরিয়ে আমাকে এক রকম টানতে টানতেই নিয়ে গেলেন বিচারপতি সালমা মাসুদ চৌধুরী এবং বিচারপতি মো. জাহাঙ্গীর হোসেনের আদালতে। দুই মাননীয় বিচারপতি সেই মুহূর্তে অন্য একটি মামলা শুনছিলেন। শুনানির মাঝখানে কিছুটা প্রথা ভেঙেই ব্যারিস্টার মওদুদ আহমদ আমাদের অসহায় অবস্থার প্রতি আদালতের দৃষ্টি আকর্ষণ করলেন। দৃশ্যত বিরক্ত হয়েই জ্যেষ্ঠ বিচারপতি সালমা মাসুদ চৌধুরী বললেন, আপনাদের কথা কিছুই বুঝতে পারছি না, শুনানি যেটা চলছে শেষ হতে দিন, তারপর না হয় আপনাদের কথা শুনব। আমরা অপেক্ষা করতে থাকলাম। মিনিট পাঁচেকের মধ্যেই শুনানি শেষ হলে আদালত আমার পক্ষের আইনজীবীর কথা শুনতে চাইলেন। ব্যারিস্টার মওদুদ আহমদ এবং অ্যাডভোকেট এ জে মোহাম্মদ আলী উত্তেজনা ও হতাশা যথাসম্ভব চেপে রেখে অতি সংক্ষেপে পূর্ববর্ত ী বেঞ্চের কাহিনী বর্ণনা করলেন। বিচারপতি সালমা মাসুদ চৌধুরী সঠিকভাবেই আদালতের নিয়ম-কানুনের উল্লেখ করে দুই সিনিয়র আইনজীবীকে স্মরণ করিয়ে দিলেন যে, এভাবে হঠাত্ করে তাদের পক্ষে কোনো মামলা শোনা সম্ভব নয়। তালিকাভুক্ত কোনো মামলার আবেদন নিয়ে অন্য বেঞ্চে যাওয়ার আগে অবশ্যই প্রথমে আদালতের লিখিত আদেশ নিয়ে আসতে হবে। আমাকে বিচারপতি সালমা মাসুদ চৌধুরীর আদালতে অপেক্ষা করতে বলে আমার অত্যন্ত শুভানুধ্যায়ী আইনজীবীদ্বয় আবার ছুটলেন বিচারপতি কামরুল ইসলাম চৌধুরীর কাছে। আমি ভাবলাম হয়তো আজই দ্বিতীয় আদালতে আবেদন পেশের সুযোগ পাব। প্রত্যাশা করছিলাম প্রবীণ আইনজীবী ব্যারিস্টার মওদুদের ফেরা পর্যন্ত নিশ্চয়ই বিচারপতিরা অপেক্ষা করবেন। আদালত সম্পর্কে অভিজ্ঞতা অর্জনের তখনও বাকি ছিল। ঘড়ির কাঁটায় ঠিক চারটা বাজতেই বিচারপতি সালমা মাসুদ চৌধুরী এবং বিচারপতি মো. জাহাঙ্গীর হোসেন এত দ্রুততার সঙ্গে বেঞ্চ থেকে নেমে গেলেন যে, আমার ভয় হচ্ছিল মাননীয় বিচারপতিরা না আবার হোঁচট খেয়ে পড়ে গিয়ে আঘাত পান। আমার সঙ্গে বেশ কয়েকজন বিএনপি সমর্থক নবীন আইনজীবী ছিলেন। বিচারপতিদের এজলাস থেকে নেমে যাওয়ায় তাদের মুখমণ্ডলে স্পষ্ট হতাশার চিহ্ন দেখলাম। বেচারাদের চোখ বলছিল আমার গ্রেফতার বোধহয় আর ঠেকানো গেল না। কেন জানি না এইসব কাজ- কারবারে প্রচণ্ড হাসি পাচ্ছিল। আদালতে হাসা বারণ, কারণ তাতে আবার আদালত অবমাননা হয়। দ্রুত হাসি গিলে ফেলে সিদ্ধান্ত নিলাম তখনই পত্রিকা অফিসে ফিরব। কিন্তু, নাছোড়বান্দা শুভাকাঙ্ক্ষীরা অনে কটা জোর করেই আমাকে বার প্রেসিডেন্টের অফিসে নিয়ে তুললো। পাঁচ মিনিটের বেশি অবশ্য সেখানে ছিলাম না। লোকজন পরামর্শ দিচ্ছিল রাতের মতো কোনো এক আইনজীবীর কক্ষে পালিয়ে থাকতে। তাদের তখনও আশা পরদিন নিশ্চয়ই কোনো একটা আদালত আমার আবেদন শুনবেন। পরামর্শ শুনেই ঘৃণায় গা ঘিন ঘিন করে উঠলো। তরুণ ব্যারিস্টার কায়সার কামালকে বেশ উচ্চস্বরেই বললাম, তোমরা ভুলে যাচ্ছ, আমি রাজনীতিবিদ কিংবা আইনজীবী নই। অনেকের মতো, মধ্যরাতে চুপিসারে আদালতে ঢোক া কিংবা ছদ্মবেশ ধারণ করা ইত্যাদি কাজ- কর্মে আমি মোটেই অভ্যস্ত নই। অনেকটা ধাক্কা দিয়ে সবাইকে সরি য়ে সুপ্রিমকোর্ট বার সভাপতি অ্যাডভোকেট জয়নাল আবেদিনের কক্ষ থেকে বেরিয়ে এলাম। বাইরে তখন অগুনতি ক্যামেরা আমার দিকে তাক করে রয়েছে। সেগুলো দুই হাতে ঠেলে পথ করে নিয়ে সিঁড়ির কাছে পৌঁছে দেখি অ্যাডভোকেট আদিলুর রহমান খান অপেক্ষমাণ। কোনো কথা না বলে আমাকে অনুসরণ ের ইশারা করে দ্রুত পায়ে সিঁড়ি দিয়ে নেমে এলাম। আমার এক সহকর্মীকে বললাম গাড়ি খুঁজে বের করতে। চকিতে চারদিকে চেয়ে কয়েকজন সাদা পোশাকের পুলিশ দেখতে পেলেও পোশাকধারী কাউকে না দেখে অব াকই হলাম। বুঝলাম প্রশাসনও সম্ভবত ঘটনার এই আকস্মিকতার জন্য প্রস্তুত ছিল না। অনেকটা নিশিতে পাওয়া মানুষের মতো গাড়িতে উঠলাম। পেছনে আমি এবং আমার দেশ-এর রিপোর্টার মাহবুব ও বাছির জামাল। সামনের সিটে আদিলুর রহমান খান। কুড়ি বছর ধরে আমার গাড়িচালক বাদলকে বললাম সোজা কারওয়ান বাজার যেতে। আদিলকে বললাম রাস্তায় গ্রেফতার হলে মানবাধিকার কর্মী হিসেবে সেই ঘটনার সাক্ষী থাকতে। গাড়ি থেকে স্ত্রীকে ফোন করে সারাদিনের ঘটনা জানালাম। সৌভাগ্যক্রমে অন্যান্য দিনের তুলনায় রাস্তা অনেকটাই ফাঁকা লাগলো। আধ ঘণ্টার মধ্যেই পৌঁছে গেলাম বাংলাদেশ ইস্পাত ও প্রকৌশল করপোরেশনের প্রধান কার্যালয় ভবনের চত্বরে। ততক্ষণে আমার সব সহকর্মী সাংবাদিক ১১ তলার অফিস ছেড়ে নিচে নেমে এসেছে। আমি হাসিমুখে গাড়ি থেকে নামত েই একটা হর্ষধ্বনি উঠলো। অপেক্ষমাণ লিফটে চড়ে পৌঁছে গেলাম আমার দেশ কার্যালয়ে। সকাল সাড়ে আটটায় যে অবরুদ্ধ জীবন ছেড়ে গিয়েছিলাম আদালতে ন্যায়বিচারের অলীক প্রত্যাশায়, বিকাল পাঁচটার মধ্যে সেখানেই আমার প্রত্যাবর্তন ঘটলো। বাংলাদেশে কথিত আইনের শাসনের অসাধারণ এক অভিজ্ঞতা দিনভর সঞ্চয় হলো। এতদিন জানতাম জটিল ও গুরুত্বপূর্ণ মামলা নিষ্পত্তির জন্যই জনগণ উচ্চ আদালতের শরণাপন্ন হয়। হাইকোর্ট বেঞ্চের আজকের আদেশ শোনার পর থেকেই একটি প্রশ্ন মাথায় ঘুরপাক খাচ্ছে। হাইকোর্টের মাননীয় বিচারপতিরা যে মামলার গুরুত্ব ও জটিলতার কারণে কোনোরকম আদেশ দিতে বিব্রত হন, সেই মামলার বিচারকার্য সিএমএম কিংবা জেলা জজ আদালতের মতো নিম্ন আদালতে তাহলে কেমন করে চলবে, এই প্রশ্নের জবাব কার কাছে খুঁজব? সবচেয়ে বড় কথা, বাংলাদেশের বিচারব্যবস্থার বর্তমান পরিস্থিতিতে হাইকোর্টের সব বেঞ্চই যে আমার প্রতি একই রকম আচরণ করবেন না, তারই- বা নিশ্চয়তা কোথায়? আজই তো দুটো বেঞ্চে ছুটোছুটি করেও ন্যায়বিচার অধরাই থেকে গেল। আদালতের ৮ তারিখের রোমাঞ্চকর গল্প শেষ হলো। এবার আমার মামলা জনগণের আদালতে পেশ করার পালা। তাদের কাছ থেকে ন্যায়বিচার যে আমি পাবই, এ নিয়ে আমার মনে অন্তত কোনো সন্দেহ নেই। সপ্তাহ তিনেক আগে ‘এক অবরুদ্ধ চান্স সম্পাদকের জবানবন্দী’ শিরোনামে মন্তব্য- প্রতিবেদন লিখেছিলাম। সেই লেখায় সরকারের এই দেশদ্রোহ মামলার খানিকটা বিবরণ ছিল। দুই কিস্তির বর্তমান মন্তব্য প্রতিবেদনে প্রসঙ্গক্রমে সেখানকার কিছু তথ্যের পুনরাবৃত্তি ঘটলে ক্রুসেডের লক্ষ্য এখন বাংলাদেশ মাহমুদুর রহমান এগার শতকের শেষ দশক থেকে পরবর্তী প্রায় দু’শ’ বছর ধরে ইউরোপীয় খ্রিস্টান সম্প্রদায় মধ্যপ্রাচ্যের মুসলমানদের বিরুদ্ধে যে লাগাতার যুদ্ধ চালিয়ে গেছে তাকেই ক্রুসেড নামে অভিহিত করা হয়েছে। ১০৯৫ সালে পোপ উরব্ান-২ (Pope Urban II) বাইজেনটাইন সম্রাট এলেক্সিয়াস-১ (Emperor Alexius I)-এর আহ্বানে সাড়া দিয়ে ইউরোপের প্রধানত লাতিন খ্রিস্টানদের সমন্বয়ে সেনাবাহিনী গঠন করে প্রথম তুর্কি সেলজুকদের বিরুদ্ধে যুদ্ধাভিযানে অবতীর্ণ হন এবং শেষ পর্যন্ত ১০৯৯ সালে তখন পর্যন্ত মুসলমানদের নিয়ন্ত্রণাধীন পবিত্র জেরুজালেম নগরী অধিকার করতে সক্ষম হন। প্রকৃতপক্ষে মুসলমানের অর্ধচন্দ্রের (Crescent) বিরুদ্ধে খ্রিস্টীয় ক্রসের (Cross) যে আগ্রাসন তাকেই লাতিন ইউরোপ ক্রুসেড বা ধর্মযুদ্ধ নাম দিয়ে মধ্যযুগে ইউরোপীয় খ্রিস্টানদের মধ্যে ধর্মীয় উন্মাদনা সৃষ্টি করতে সক্ষম হয়েছিল। মুসলমানদের বিরুদ্ধে পরিচালিত এসব তথাকথিত ধর্মযুদ্ধ তত্কালীন সময়ে খ্রিস্টান ধর্মগুরু পোপের অনুমোদন ও নির্দেশক্রমেই পরিচালনা করা হতো। প্রথম ক্রুসেডে মুসলমানরা জেরুজালেম থেকে বিতাড়িত হলেও ১১৮৭ সালের তৃতীয় ক্রুসেডে সুলতান সালাদিনের নেতৃত্বে মুসলমান বাহিনী জেরুজালেম পুনরুদ্ধার করে। ক্রুসেডের হাজার বছরের পুরনো ইতিহাস বর্তমান দশকে নতুন করে প্রাসঙ্গিকতা পেয়েছে সাবেক মার্কিন প্রেসিডেন্ট জর্জ বুশের সন্ত্রাসের বিরুদ্ধে যুদ্ধ ঘোষণার পরিপ্রেক্ষিতে। নবরূপে ক্রুসেডের ধারণার সূত্রপাত অবশ্য ১৯৯৩ সালে স্যামুয়েল পি হান্টিংটন তার সভ্যতার সংঘাত (Clash of Civilizations) তত্ত্বের মাধ্যমেই করে গেছেন। গত এক দশক ধরে আফগানিস্তান ও ইরাকে পশ্চিমা সাম্রাজ্যবাদী যৌথবাহিনীর যে আগ্রাসন চলছে সেটি মূলত মধ্যযুগীয় ক্রুসেডেরই আধুনিক সংস্করণ মাত্র। ২০০১ সালে মার্কিনিদের যুদ্ধ প্রস্তুতিকালীন সময়ে তত্কালীন প্রেসিডেন্ট জর্জ বুশ ক্রুসেড শব্দটি একবার উচ্চারণও করেছিলেন। আন্তর্জাতিক মহলে বিরূপ প্রতিক্রিয়া সৃষ্টির আশঙ্কা থেকে তার উপদেষ্টারা আর দ্বিতীয়বার তাকে ওই শব্দটি উচ্চারণ করতে না দিলেও স্বঘোষিত Born again Christian জর্জ বুশ (জুনিয়র) যে বর্তমান বিশ্বকে ক্রুসেডের আলোকেই দেখে থাকেন এটা তার সামগ্রিক বক্তব্য, আচার-আচরণে পরিষ্কার। স্ক্যানডিনেভিয়াভুক্ত রাষ্ট্রসমূহসহ আধুনিক ইউরোপের অনেক দেশেই ইসলাম বিরোধিতা ক্রমেই প্রকট রূপ ধারণ করছে। ডেনমার্ক, বেলজিয়াম, নেদারল্যান্ড ইত্যাদি রাষ্ট্রের ইসলামবিদ্বেষীরা রীতিমত উন্মাদের মতো আচরণ করছে। ক্যাথলিকদের ধর্মগুরু বর্তমান পোপ বেনেডিক্ট-১৬ তার প্রকাশ্য ইসলামবিরোধী বক্তব্যের জন্য কিছুদিন আগেও যথেষ্ট সমালোচিত হয়েছেন। বিশ্ব রাজনীতির উপরোক্ত বাস্তবতার আলোকে এবার বাংলাদেশের রাজনৈতিক ও সামাজিক দৃশ্যপট বিশ্লেষণ করা প্রয়োজন। আমার অভিজ্ঞতায় বাংলাদেশ পৃথিবীর একমাত্র মুসলমান প্রধান রাষ্ট্র যেখানে সরকারি মদতে গণমাধ্যমে অবিরত ইসলামবিরোধী কুিসত প্রচার চালানো হয়। আমাদের জাতীয় দিবসগুলোতেও ঐক্যের বাণী প্রচারের পরিবর্তে দেশের সংখ্যাগরিষ্ঠ নাগরিকের ধর্ম বিশ্বাসের প্রতি ঘৃণা ছড়ানো হয়ে থাকে। বিস্ময়ের ব্যাপার হলো এই দুষ্কর্মটি যারা করে থাকেন তাদের বিপুল সংখ্যাগরিষ্ঠ অংশ আবার মুসলমান পরিবার থেকেই এসেছেন এবং পিতৃ প্রদত্ত মুসলমান নাম ধারণ করেই আছেন। পিতা-মাতার ধর্মবিশ্বাসের প্রতি এই অপরিসীম বিরাগ সৃষ্টির পেছনে ঠিক কোন দর্শন কাজ করেছে তা আমার জানা নেই। তবে বাংলাদেশকে যে একটি শ্রেণী মুসলমানপ্রধান, স্বাধীন রাষ্ট্র হিসেবে আর দেখতে চায় না, সেটি ক্রমেই প্রমাণিত হচ্ছে। তারা ১৯৭১ সালের মহান মুক্তিযুদ্ধের একাধারে বীরত্বপূর্ণ ও ট্র্যাজিক ঘটনাবলীকে দীর্ঘদিন ধরে সাফল্যের সঙ্গে তাদের উদ্দেশ্য পূরণের হাতিয়ার হিসেবে ব্যবহার করে চলেছে। পশ্চিম পাকিস্তানের পুঁজিপতি, সামন্তবাদী গোষ্ঠী ও সামরিক একনায়কতন্ত্রের বিরুদ্ধে আমাদের স্বাধিকার আদায়ের সংগ্রামকে বাংলাদেশের সংখ্যাগরিষ্ঠ গণমাধ্যমে ইসলামের বিরুদ্ধে লড়াই হিসেবে দেখানোর অপচেষ্টা দীর্ঘদিন ধরে চললেও দৃশ্যত প্রচারণার তীব্রতা বেড়েছে নব্বইয়ের দশক থেকে। স্যামুয়েল হান্টিংটনের চরম ইসলামবিদ্বেষী সভ্যতার সংঘাত তত্ত্বের উদ্ভবও যে প্রায় একই সময়ে হয়েছে এই বিষয়টিকে কেবল কাকতালীয় ভেবে উড়িয়ে দেয়ার সুযোগ নেই। আগেই বলেছি হাজার বছর আগে ইসলামিক ক্রিসেন্টকে মোকাবেলা করার জন্যই খ্রিস্টান ধর্মযাজকরা ক্রুসেড আবিষ্কার করেছিলেন। বাংলাদেশে ১৯৭১ সালে নির্যাতনকারী পাকিস্তানি হানাদার বাহিনী এবং তাদের স্বল্পসংখ্যক এ দেশীয় দালালগোষ্ঠী মুসলমান ধর্মাবলম্বী হওয়ার বিষয়টিকে সাম্রাজ্যবাদ ও আধিপত্যবাদের বর্তমান দোসররা সুযোগ হিসেবে নিয়ে ইসলামের সব প্রতীককে জনগণের কাছে বিকৃতভাবে উপস্থাপন করে চলেছে। ইসলামের আদিযুগ থেকেই চাঁদ- তারা ইসলামী আন্দোলনের প্রতীক রূপে এই ধর্মাবলম্বীদের পতাকায় প্রদর্শিত হয়ে আসছে। এই প্রতীক কিংবা সবুজ রং পাকিস্তানের পতাকায় আছে বলেই এগুলো সে দেশটির সম্পত্তি হয়ে যায়নি। প্রসঙ্গক্রমে, সমাজতন্ত্রের প্রতীক হিসেবে অনেক দেশেই যে কাস্তে- হাতুড়ি ব্যবহারের রেওয়াজ রয়েছে সেটিও পাঠক জানেন। মহানবী হজরত মোহাম্মদ (সা.)-এর প্রিয় রং ছিল সবুজ এবং অনেক হাদিসে সবুজকে বেহেস্তিদের পোশাকের রং হিসেবে বর্ণনা করা আছে। সবচেয়ে বড় কথা হলো পবিত্র কোরআন শরীফের সূরা আদ দাহার-এর ২১ নম্বর আয়াতে স্বয়ং আল্লাহ্তায়ালা জান্নাতবাসীদের পোশাকের যে প্রতিশ্রুতি প্রদান করেছেন তা নিম্নরূপ : ‘তাদের আবরণ হবে চিকন সবুজ রেশম ও মোটা সবুজ রেশম।’ দাড়ি রাখা ইসলাম ধর্ম পালনে অপরিহার্য না হলেও আমাদের প্রিয় নবী যেহেতু দাড়ি রাখতেন, কাজেই এটি আমরা সুন্নত হিসেবেই পালন করে থাকি। নামাজ আদায় করার সময় টুপি পরে মাথা ঢেকে রাখাও আমাদের ধর্ম পালনেরই রীতি। মস্তক আবৃত করার এই রীতি অন্যান্য সেমেটিক ধর্মেও রয়েছে। ইহুদি জনগোষ্ঠীর একটি উল্লেখযোগ্য অংশ এক বিশেষ ধরনের টুপি (Skull Cap) পরাকে তাদের ধর্ম পালনের অত্যাবশ্যকীয় আচার বলেই মনে করে। খ্রিস্টান ধর্মযাজকরা যথেষ্ট জাঁকজমকপূর্ণ টুপি পরেই রোববার চার্চে ধর্মোপদেশ প্রদান করে থাকেন। অথচ, বাংলাদেশের অধিকাংশ গণমাধ্যমে আজ যুদ্ধাপরাধীর কল্পিত চেহারা দেখাতে গিয়ে মুখে দাড়ি এবং মাথায় সবুজ রংয়ের চাঁদ- তারাখচিত টুপি পরিহিত এক রক্তলোলুপ, বীভত্স দানবকে তরুণ প্রজন্মের সামনে উপস্থাপন করছে। পশ্চিমা মিডিয়াতেও সবুজ রংকে সচরাচর নেতিবাচকভাবেই প্রদর্শন করা হয়ে থাকে। হলিউডের অধিকাংশ ছবিতে শয়তানকে (Devil) সবুজ দেহাবরণবিশিষ্ট দেখানো হয়। এ দেশেও রাজাকার ও যুদ্ধাপরাধী দেখানোর নামে ইলেক্ট্রনিক এবং প্রিন্ট উভয় মিডিয়াতেই ইসলামের চিহ্নসমূহকে পশ্চিমা সাম্রাজ্যবাদীদের মতো করেই নেতিবাচকভাবে প্রদর্শন করা হচ্ছে। এদিকে আবার সরকারের সব মহল থেকেও টুপি, দাড়ি এবং হেজাবকে জঙ্গিবাদের চিহ্ন হিসেবে প্রচার করা হচ্ছে। প্রধানমন্ত্রী শেখ হাসিনা কট্টর সাম্রাজ্যবাদী ও ইসলামবিদ্বেষী জর্জ বুশের সন্ত্রাসের বিরুদ্ধে যুদ্ধের একজন স্বঘোষিত সাথী। মন্ত্রিসভায় তার সহকর্মী, আইনমন্ত্রী বাংলাদেশের কওমী মাদ্রাসাগুলোকে জঙ্গিবাদের প্রজনন কেন্দ্র হিসেবে ঘোষণা করেছেন। ইসলামী ফাউন্ডেশনের মহাপরিচালক ইসলাম ধর্মকে জঙ্গিবাদের জন্য দায়ী করে বক্তব্য দেয়ার পরও স্বপদে বহাল রয়েছেন। সরকার এবং তাদের সমর্থকদের কার্যকলাপে মনে হতে পারে অন্তত এদেশে ইসলামকে পরাজিত করতে এক হাজার বছর আগের মতো ইউরোপীয় সাম্রাজ্যবাদীদের আর কষ্ট করার দরকার নেই, বাংলাদেশে ক্রুসেড পরিচালনার দায়িত্ব এদেশের মুসলমান নামের লেবাসে ইসলামবিরোধীরাই গ্রহণ করেছে। সরকার এবং তাদের সমর্থক গণমাধ্যমের অবস্থান হলো, জামায়াতে ইসলামী এ দেশে রাজনীতি করতে পারবে না, কারণ তারা যুদ্ধাপরাধী; হিযবুত তাহরিরকে নিষিদ্ধ করা হয়েছে কারণ তারা সরকারের বিবেচনায় জঙ্গি; দেশ থেকে কওমী মাদ্রাসা উঠিয়ে দিতে হবে, কারণ আইনমন্ত্রীর ভাষ্য অনুযায়ী সেখানে জঙ্গি প্রজনন কারখানা রয়েছে। সোজা কথা, ইসলাম ধর্মের আদর্শভিত্তিক কোনো রাজনীতি বাংলাদেশে করতে দেয়া হবে না। এ সবই বিদেশি প্রভুদের নির্দেশে ও তাদের সন্তুষ্টির জন্যই করা হচ্ছে। এমতাবস্থায় বিএনপির নীতিনির্ধারকরা যদি আশা করে থাকেন যে, পশ্চিমারা বর্তমান সরকারের মতো অনুগত মিত্র ত্যাগ করে জাতীয়তাবাদী শক্তিকে সমর্থন করবে তাহলে তারা এখনও বোকার স্বর্গে বাস করছেন। জামায়াতে ইসলামীও দীর্ঘদিন ধরে মার্কিন তোষণ নীতি অনুসরণ করার ফল এখন ভালোভাবেই ভোগ করছে। বাংলাদেশের জনগণের উপলব্ধি করা প্রয়োজন, সপরিবারে শেখ মুজিব হত্যার জন্য আওয়ামী লীগ এক সময় সিআইএ ও মার্কিন যুক্তরাষ্ট্রকে সরাসরি দায়ী করলেও মার্কিন সাম্রাজ্যবাদের কাছে আত্মসমর্পণ করতে শেখ হাসিনার কোনো সমস্যা হয়নি। মার্কিন যুক্তরাষ্ট্রও একদা সোভিয়েতপন্থী আওয়ামী লীগকে বুকে টেনে নিয়েছে একবিংশ শতাব্দীর ক্রুসেডের সাথী হিসেবে। ইঙ্গ-মার্কিন-ইসরাইল-ইউরোপীয় ইউনিয়ন সমন্বয়ে গঠিত সাম্রাজ্যবাদী অক্ষশক্তি শত শত বিলিয়ন ডলার খরচ করে এবং নিজ দেশের হাজার হাজার নাগরিকের প্রাণহানি ও অঙ্গহানির বিনিময়ে ইরাক ও আফগানিস্তানে বুশ কথিত আধুনিক যুগের ক্রুসেড প্রায় এক দশক ধরে অব্যাহত রেখেছে। একবিংশ শতকের ক্রুসেডে ইরাক ও আফগানিস্তান ধ্বংসস্তূপে পরিণত হয়েছে। দেশ দুটির লাখ লাখ নাগরিক প্রাণ হারিয়েছে; মানব সভ্যতার আদি নিদর্শন লুটপাট করে বিজয়ীদের দেশে নিয়ে যাওয়া হয়েছে; উভয় দেশকে চিরস্থায়ী দাসত্বের বেড়াজালে আবদ্ধ করার প্রক্রিয়া চলছে। সাম্রাজ্যবাদী অভিন্ন গোষ্ঠী আজ বিশ্বের তৃতীয় বৃহত্তম ইসলামিক রাষ্ট্র বাংলাদেশকে নিয়ন্ত্রণ করার জন্য ভিন্ন কৌশল প্রয়োগ করেছে। এক নতুন ধরনের পরীক্ষা চালানো হচ্ছে আমাদের পবিত্র মাতৃভূমি নিয়ে। সাম্রাজ্যবাদী ও আধিপত্যবাদীদের প্রত্যক্ষ সহযোগিতায় জেনারেল মইন সেনাবাহিনীকে জাতিসংঘ শান্তি মিশন থেকে চাকরিচ্যুতির ভয় দেখিয়ে শিখণ্ডি রূপে দণ্ডায়মান রেখে তিন বছর আগে রাষ্ট্রক্ষমতা দখল করেছিলেন। ২০০৭ সালে ক্ষমতা দখলের পর মইন-ফখরুদ্দীন জুটি তাদের বিদেশি প্রভুদের নির্দেশনা অনুযায়ী জাতীয়তাবাদী এবং ইসলামী শক্তিকে নির্মূল করার পরিকল্পনা গ্রহণ করে। দেশের স্বাধীনতা-সার্বভৌমত্ব বিকিয়ে দেয়ার তার এই হীন প্রচেষ্টায় পেছন থেকে পাশ্চাত্যের সঙ্গে আঞ্চলিক আধিপত্যবাদী ভারতও জেনারেল মইনকে সেই সময় প্রয়োজনীয় সমর্থন প্রদান করেছে। এক- এগারো পরবর্তী সময়ে বহুবার লিখেছি, বাংলাদেশের রাষ্ট্রক্ষমতায় ইসলাম বিদ্বেষী একটি সেক্যুলার গোষ্ঠীকে অধিষ্ঠিত করার যে পরিকল্পনা ২০০২ সাল থেকে ক্রমান্বয়ে প্রণয়ন করা হয়েছিল তারই একটি পর্যায় ছিল মইন-মাসুদ গংয়ের ক্ষমতা দখল। আনোয়ার চৌধুরী, বিউটেনিস, রেনাটা, ফ্রয়েন মিলিতভাবে যে কৌশল প্রয়োগ করে বাংলাদেশে চাঁদ- তারাকে পরাজিত করে বিনা খরচায় ক্রুসেডের ঝাণ্ডাকে বিজয়ী করতে পেরেছে সেখান থেকে অন্যান্য মুসলমান সংখ্যাগরিষ্ঠ রাষ্ট্রসমূহেরও শিক্ষা নেয়ার প্রয়োজন রয়েছে। বাংলাদেশে ইউএনডিপি’র সাবেক প্রধান এদেশ থেকে বিদায়ের পূর্বমুহূর্তে ষড়যন্ত্রের সব দায়-দায়িত্ব অবশ্য জেনারেল মইন এবং সেই সময়কার অন্যান্য সিনিয়র জেনারেলদের ঘাড়ে চাপিয়ে গেছেন। এটাই পশ্চিমা সাম্রাজ্যবাদের চিরকালের কৌশল। এক সময়ের মার্কিন মিত্র, সেক্যুলার ভাবাদর্শের সাদ্দাম হোসেনকে সপরিবারে হত্যা করতে বর্তমান বিশ্বের একমাত্র পরাশক্তির নীতিনির্ধারকরা কোনো রকম বিবেকের তাড়না অনুভব করেনি। রেনাটাও বাংলাদেশের দেশদ্রোহী জেনারেলকে ভাগ্যের হাতে সমর্পণ করে চীনদেশে পাড়ি জমিয়েছেন। এক-এগারোর বিদেশি কুশিলবদের মধ্যে এখনও যিনি সর্বশেষ ব্যক্তি হিসেবে বাংলাদেশে রয়ে গেছেন সেই ইউরোপীয় ইউনিয়নের রাষ্ট্রদূত ফ্রয়েন তার যাওয়ার মুহূর্তে বাংলাদেশের বিমূঢ় জনগণকে সর্বশেষ কী তথ্য দিয়ে যান সেটি জানার জন্য আমরা উদগ্রীব হয়ে অপেক্ষা করছি। বাস্তবতা হলো, দীর্ঘদিন ধরে নানা ধরনের প্রচার চালিয়ে এদেশের জনগণের একটি বড় অংশের ধর্মবিশ্বাস দুর্বল করে দিয়েই সাম্রাজ্যবাদীরা রক্তপাতহীন ক্রুসেডে জয়লাভ করেছে। এখন সেই জয়কে সংহতকরণের পালা চলছে। বাংলাদেশে তরুণ প্রজন্মের মধ্যে মূল্যবোধের অবক্ষয়ের নমুনা প্রতিদিনই দেখতে পাচ্ছি। যে বিভ্রান্ত সেনাবাহিনীর প্রত্যক্ষ সহযোগিতায় মার্কিন ও ইউরোপীয় সাম্রাজ্যবাদ তাদের উগ্র সাম্প্রদায়িক উদ্দেশ্য পূরণে সফল হয়েছে, বর্তমান সরকার ক্ষমতায় আসার পর সর্বপ্রথম সেই সেনাবাহিনীকেই চরম আঘাত করা হয়েছে। এ প্রসঙ্গে নির্বাচন পূর্বকালে প্রধানমন্ত্রীপুত্র সজীব ওয়াজেদ জয়ের লিখিত একটি নিবন্ধের উল্লেখ করা যেতে পারে, যেখানে তিনি বাংলাদেশ সেনাবাহিনীকে একটি মৌলবাদী প্রতিষ্ঠান রূপে চিত্রিত করেছিলেন। সেই লেখায় তিনি সেনাবাহিনীতে শুদ্ধি অভিযান পরিচালনারও আগাম ইঙ্গিত প্রদান করেছিলেন। সজীব ওয়াজেদ জয় কোন দেশের নাগরিক তা জাতির কাছে এখনও পরিষ্কার নয়। তার স্ত্রী মার্কিন নাগরিক এ তথ্য আমরা জানি। কিন্তু, তিনি খ্রিস্টান না ইহুদি ধর্মাবলম্বী তা নিয়েও অস্পষ্টতা রয়েছে। কাজেই তথাকথিত বিডিআর বিদ্রোহের নামে ২০০৯-এর ফেব্রুয়ারিতে ঢাকার পিলখানায় নির্বিচার সেনা অফিসার হত্যাকাণ্ডকে শুধু কাকতালীয় বিবেচনার কোনো সুযোগ আছে বলে আমি মনে করি না। বিডিআর হত্যাকাণ্ড- পরবর্তী চৌদ্দ মাসে বাংলাদেশ নামক রাষ্ট্রটি ইতিহাসের ঘৃণ্যতম মানবাধিকার লঙ্ঘনের ঘটনায় কলঙ্কিত হয়েছে। বিরোধী দল এবং মতকে দমন করার জন্য রাষ্ট্রযন্ত্র তার সব নির্মমতা ও ভয়াবহতা নিয়ে ঝাঁপিয়ে পড়েছে। একের পর এক হত্যাকাণ্ড ঘটে চলছে, নারীর সম্ভ্রম ভূলুণ্ঠিত হয়েছে, রিমান্ডে নিয়ে নির্যাতনের মাত্রা এক-এগারোর সরকারকে অতিক্রম করেছে, ইসলাম ধর্ম বিশ্বাসীদের ওপর নিপীড়ন রোমান যুগে খ্রিস্টান ধর্মাবলম্বীদের করুণ অবস্থা স্মরণ করিয়ে দিচ্ছে, বিচারের বাণী আর নিভৃতে নয় প্রকাশ্যেই কেঁদে চলেছে। যে বিদেশি কূটনীতিকরা উপদেশ- নির্দেশ দিয়ে চার দলীয় জোট সরকারকে পাঁচ বছর একেবারে ব্যতিব্যস্ত করে রেখেছিল, তারাই হঠাত্ করে ভিয়েনা কনভেনশনের প্রতি পরম শ্রদ্ধাশীল হয়ে উঠেছে। বিভিন্ন সূত্রে শুনতে পাই, দূতাবাসের বিভিন্ন গোপনীয় বৈঠকে এরা নাকি বর্তমান সরকারের ইসলামবিরোধী সার্বিক কর্মকাণ্ডে যারপরনাই সন্তুষ্টি প্রকাশ করে থাকে। ইউরোপীয় ইউনিয়নের অন্তর্ভুক্ত চিহ্নিত চরম দক্ষিণপন্থী, ইসলামবিদ্বেষী দেশগুলোর কূটনীতিকরা বর্তমান সরকারকে পরবর্তী নির্বাচনে বিজয়ী করানোর কলাকৌশল প্রণয়ন নিয়ে আগাম আলাপ-আলোচনা আরম্ভ করে দিয়েছে। বাংলাদেশের সব প্রতিষ্ঠান ইতোমধ্যেই ধ্বংসস্তূপে পরিণত হয়েছে। সংসদ, সচিবালয়, আদালত, সেনাবাহিনী, নির্বাচন কমিশন, দুদক ইত্যাদির ভূমিকা এখন সুতোয় টানা পুতুলের চেয়ে বেশি কিছু নয়। এমতাবস্থায়, রাষ্ট্রকে রক্ষা করতে হলে সফল গণঅভ্যুত্থানের মাধ্যমে একটি প্রকৃত দেশপ্রেমিক, বিদেশিদের নিয়ন্ত্রণমুক্ত, ধর্মীয় মূল্যবোধে বিশ্বাসী, গণতান্ত্রিক মোর্চাকে রাষ্ট্র ক্ষমতায় বসানোর বিকল্প নেই। প্রথম ক্রুসেডে জেরুজালেম হারানোর পর সেই পবিত্র নগরী তৃতীয় ক্রুসেডে সুলতান সালাদিনের নেতৃত্বে পুনরুদ্ধার করতে মুসলমানদের প্রায় একশ’ বছর অপেক ভাগ করুন ০ কোন মন্তব্য নেই:
